Excited to have just installed or latest piece, ‘Tomorrow Today’, at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Can’t wait to have it all wired and lit up!
.
‘Tomorrow Today’ by @studiokca is made from sand blasted stainless steel posts shaped into an ellipse.
Echoing the ‘Archway of Ramapo College’ and the oculus within the new Learning Commons building, the shape of the piece helps pull people from different pathways toward the Learning Commons, while framing the view of the rolling hills beyond.
Made with 73 stainless steel posts, ‘Tomorrow Today’ serves as a device for tracking the passage of time through the course of the school year - both naturally using the reflected light that bounces off its surface from sunrise to sunset, and mechanically. Each post is milled and fitted with LED lamps that light up every 5th day over the course of 365 days.

Dive into the story behind the creation of Whale on the Wharf! 🐳
To mark Recycle Week, here is a never-seen-before video of the iconic sculpture - crafted from recycled plastic collected on Hawaiian beaches 🌊
By transforming waste into art, we’re showing how the circular economy keeps materials in use for as long as possible ♻️
Since launching Whale on the Wharf, some of our community brought our attention to the fact that some of the items contained within the sculpture may have been washed into the ocean as a result of the devastating Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami of 2011. Several of the crates have been identified as coming from fish markets and ports of the Tohoku region which was impacted by these devasting events.
The Whale on the Wharf artist at @studiokca shared his intention behind the work:
“You can find everything in the ocean, it connects all of us together on this planet- in good and in tragic ways.. Not all of the 150,000,000 tons of plastic in our oceans is intentionally placed there- or even waste. Some of the plastic we were finding may have been from plastic bins and baskets washed into the ocean from the Tsunami that struck Japan almost 15 years ago and we thank the people who shared that information with us. Global warming, severe storms, and natural disasters increasingly affect our cities and waterways, causing untold damage to human and marine populations; another reason to be aware of what we use and how we use it, and work together to protect our planet”
Work in progress on ‘Rideau’, our first public artwork in Canada, coming later this year to Vanier, Ottawa!

In New York City the Dept. of Sanitation estimates approximately 742 million single-use plastic bottles are discarded every year.
This Earth Day and Earth Week, we look back at our ‘Head in the Clouds Pavilion’, and reflect on the work we still have to do to change our plastic consumption habits.
‘Head in the Clouds Pavilion’ by @studiokca , made from 53,780 recovered plastic water bottles - the number discarded in an hour in NYC.

Over the past ten years we’ve worked to pull 30 tons of plastic from the ocean - a small amount in comparison to the more than 150 million tons of plastic still swimming in our waterways.
For Earth Day 2025 we’re highlighting the role everyone can play in minimizing plastics in our environment: by avoiding single-use plastics in favor of reusable items, reducing plastic consumption, and carefully recycling the plastics we do use.
.
Whale on the Wharf (Skyscraper), by @studiokca is an 11-meter tall sculpture comprised of 5 tons of plastic pulled from the ocean, and is a physical example of why we need to change how we use and dispose of plastic in the world today.

a new arrival has surfaced just outside mallow in @canarywharflondon
a blue whale, made entirely from plastic waste collected from beaches in hawaii. designed by @studiokca and built in collaboration with the hawaii wildlife fund, the sculpture is both beautiful and thought-provoking. the concrete base is made using plastic litter and spent coffee grounds from canary wharf’s cafés. its presence is a quiet but powerful reminder of the impact our everyday choices can have on the planet.
join us for a meal and overlook our new resident in all its glory.
