Hawks Kettle, Puffins Wheel - And Other Poems of Birds in Flight by Susan Vande Griek and Mark Hoffmann, is a gorgeous poetry and non-fiction book! In a very accessible way, the book begins by explaining how birds’ features allow them to fly; this is paired with a poem about how birds fly and other ways they move. The illustrations alone will draw you in!
Several different birds are highlighted in this book and each one comes with a beautiful poem and a short non-fiction piece about how the bird moves. Did you know that crows mob, hummingbirds hover, and peregrines stoop? These types of movements are explained alongside the birds’ adaptations. A true masterpiece, making it great for both Science and Language subjects. Such rich material to discuss and base lessons on! We hope you will check it out soon!

It’s been a long time since I sketched something not for a book but I did yesterday! Woot!
Thursday I joined @studiohoffmann at his weekly Gab ‘n’ Doodle. It also happened to be the 4th anniversary of his weekly drawathon live. Woot! Woot!
I showed up on time but unsure of what I was going to make. At the end, I picked one of my favorite media — graphite and paper. I love sketching but forget how from certain angles it can look as if the values are lighter. Rookie mistake of mine so here is what the sketch looks like.
Mark is a great host. Time flew by and I was not stressed at all. For those who know me, thats no small feat! We talked about a lot of different things: from music to Latin America. You can go and watch/listen to it.
