Sad to hear that Derek Birdsall, graphic designer has died – his book designs will always be an inspiration. His book ‘Notes On Book Design’ (2004) was a constant reference for me last year.
On hearing the news of his passing, I was reminded of this quote from Cathal Smyth (Ex-Madness) – friend to Derek’s son Simon, and regular visitor to the Birdsall household. And forever inspired by Derek’s positive influence and encouragement.

Sad news this morning, Andy Rourke of The Smiths has died at 59. I absolutely loved that band and Andy’s bass playing was integral to their sound — as they all were. Thoughts with his family and thank you Andy. RIP

Shocked to hear that Andrew Fletcher of Depeche Mode has died.
I’ve loved DM since 1981, Fletch looked great in all of their photography. Always cool and himself. You could tell he was an important figure in the band.
