Install shot from “Stuck between a rock and a hard place” L-R: Untitled (Basement), Untitled (Doorknobs) Thank you to everyone who came out to view my thesis exhibition! I will be posting more photos of my installation and painting details in the coming weeks so stay tuned. To everyone in the studios, peers and professors, friends and family, thank you so much for your support over this past year. “Stuck between a rock and a hard place” is a year-long investigation into the idea of uncovering—what is inside a building, object, or wall? What are the hidden structures holding things together that one does not normally see, and takes for granted? How can these constructed and deconstructed forms (familiar to me from home renovation projects and my time as a set builder) become memorials to spaces lost to time, to relationships gone by, to memories compartmentalized and emotions bottled up? Rendered in oil paint, and installed in 2x4 constructions resembling rough framing, my work seeks to explore the symbiotic relationship between making and unmaking, creating a framing context which calls to mind the in-between. Weird new fun painting I’m working on—it’s about a special little moment over the summer that I now realize I took for granted. I finished the underpainting today so I can lay in color tomorrow and it was one of my most productive days in the studio in a while and I’m feeling really happy about it. I have a name for it and I think it’s the first part of a diptych but I won’t tell you the name yet cause it’ll give too much away Also I cradled the panel myself? So big flex 4’ X 3’ Oil on wood panel #oilpainting #oilpainter #underpainting

New painting! I didn’t grid this one or print out the reference image as I’m changing all the colors to be similar to my previous WIP “Bathroom tile”! By removing steps from my regular process I’m hoping this one will be a little more ~emotional~ than my last paintings Also used a ton of pastel ground for priming and texture (slide 2) thanks to @devindusterart :-) #oilpainting #oilpainter #art

Progress on a new painting (16” by 24” ish) that’s been kicking my ass it’s inspired by watching my grandparents’ garage get torn up but I think it kind of looks like a whale skull it’s got a sad name but I’m still working on that #oilpainting #oilpainter #art

For Abbie, 2023, 5.5 X 3.5 inches, oil on plywood Itty bitty baby painting today for Abbie on a scrap of plywood I’ve had since I moved to New York that used to shim up one of the legs of my bed because my floors are so uneven. Abbie (with help from Layla!!!) spent six hours with me in my studio today filming a 16mm short for her experimental film class :-) This painting is the last few seconds and only two layers but I did it in like 45 minutes excluding drying time so!! #oilpainting #oilpainter #art

New oil painting! This one is more experimental—I’ve never done an underpainting this bright but I’ve enjoyed it so far. The ground is also fairly textured as I didn’t sand the ply beforehand and applied fairly thick coats of gesso. I’m not a huge fan of this painting as it stands right now, but I think with a little further development it’ll be better!! #oilpainting #oilpainter #art

Oil underpainting on scrap plywood—I was inspired by the shape of the scrap and wanted to experiment with clear gesso and leaving visible the surface ground, as well as the orientation of the piece (horizontal or vertical) #oilpainting #oilpainter #art
