Breaking Ground 🚜
We are very happy to see both projects for Settelen (a competition won with Diener & Diener in 2019) as well as for Walkeweg (a competition won with Aequipe in 2022) in Basel slowly taking shape.

¿Y si las plantas tuvieran voz? 🌿

🌱 Exhibition New Wilderness at the @gewerbemuseum_winterthur 🌿
Join us for the opening 01.04.2026 at 18:30 🎉
Herbs sprouting unexpectedly between paving stones, saplings thriving on vacant plots, rare species blooming on unused wasteland, wild plants flourishing along railway tracks, non-native species spreading along the sides of motorways: in our urban environment we are surrounded by spontaneous vegetation that makes use of every available ecological niche to lead an untamed life. This special kind of nature should not simply be appreciated for its unique qualities: it deserves to be celebrated and nurtured. It has the potential to inspire a new and optimistic approach to our contemporary urban landscapes and living spaces; one that is both environmentally aware and free from nostalgia. The New Wilderness exhibition presents the innovative perspectives of selected projects drawn from landscape architecture, research and ecology, which nurture a new wilderness and share a future-orientated understanding of urban nature.
New Wilderness is curated by @studiocelinebaumann in collaboration with the @gewerbemuseum_winterthur

Drawing as a way of thinking:
To illustrate our projects, we use different kinds of tools: from the highly specific 3D model to the handsketch. Drawing allows us to generate ideas and envision spaces.

The central section between Mattenbachplatz and Waldbach forms the core of the revitalization: here, the stream is shifted southward, and the existing channel becomes a pedestrian and slow-cycling path shaded by mature trees. A slight elevation of the water level makes the stream more visible and present for passersby. South of the new watercourse, the linear alluvial forest is strengthened and extended, enriching both ecological value and recreational potential. ubtle adjustments to the streambed soften and widen the banks, bringing water and pathway closer together.

The Mattenbach stream in Winterthur flows from the district of Seen to its confluence with the Eulach River. Straightened and canalised over the past century, it is now set to be released from its tight corset. Rather than imposing an entirely new design, the project proposes a careful interplay of preservation, addition, and transformation—shaping a new course for the waterway that functions as a palimpsest, making the site’s history legible once again. The renewed Mattenbach will offer a varied landscape with diverse habitats and a range of public uses. Interlocking spatial sequences create a continuous, cohesive whole.
