Threshold â @objects_of_common_interest
A soft perimeter, a suspended interior.
Through Dooor textile partitions, Threshold turns separation into a gesture of calm.
Light filters, surfaces soften, the body slows down.
Architecture becomes temporary, delicate, open.
A boundary that does not close the space, but gives it time to breathe.

Threshold â Objects of Common Interest

Space is shaped by a minimal gesture.
Dooor textile partitions trace a mobile perimeter, defining subtle thresholds that do not close, but suggest.
You enter, you slow down, you stay.
Between diffused light and soft surfaces, architecture becomes a suspended presence.
Here, the boundary does not divide: it welcomes.

Threshold â Objects of Common Interest

Paola Pietrantoni, founder of Studio Atomic, will be joining an inspiring panel for âIlluminating Wellness: A Conversation About Interior Lighting Designâ an evening dedicated to exploring how light shapes the way we live, feel, and connect.

The discussion will reflect on how thoughtful lighting design can enhance well-being and deepen our experience of space.
She will be joined by Alina Ainza (Loop Lighting), Renato Delle Side (Dexelance), and Christine Vandover (HOK), with Jack Murphy of The Architectâs Newspaper moderating the conversation.

An evening to gather, exchange ideas, and reflect on the power of light.
Hotel Aka Brickell entrance
From the rhythm of Brickell to a softer tempo.
Light leads the transition, glowing ceilings and subtle accents easing the eye from the cityâs intensity.
An arrival shaped by illumination, where lighting slows the pace and gently welcomes you into the hotel.

Darkness is not the absence of light â it is a presence of its own. As designers, we often chase brightness, yet overlook the depth, nuance, and emotional power that darkness can offer.
Join Studio Atomic on Wednesday, September 10th for an intimate evening in our Dumbo studio â the third event in the Aperitivo series, bringing together architects and lighting designers for thoughtful conversations.
The evening will feature a talk with Lighting designers Florencia Castro and Monica Llamas, co-authors of The Poetics of Darkness, alongside Studio Atomicâs Paola Pietrantoni.
Together, they will explore how darkness, contrast, and the adaptation of the human eye can become powerful creative tools in architectural lighting.
Date: Wednesday, September 10th
Doors at: 7pm, talk at 8pm
format: aperitive

Weâre honored to receive an IES Illumination Award for our lighting design at Foundrae Madison
A heartfelt thank you to the amazing team at @spacesmith for having us on this special project â we loved following your design lead every step of the way.
This jewelry store was imagined as a museum of gold and craft: lighting was fully integrated into the millwork to create moments of discovery, where each piece could shine in its own right. Compact space, low ceilings â high impact.

A multifamily residential tower -
Throughout the building, indirect lighting defines key moments, casting a gentle radiance that highlights textures and architectural details. Wall grazers and cove lighting introduce a soft diffusion, avoiding harsh contrasts while reinforcing the sense of comfort and elegance. Thoughtfully placed decorative fixtures echo mid-century influences, adding a nostalgic touch while maintaining a contemporary sensibility.

For the Foundrae stores, we designed a custom glass sconce in collaboration with a glass artist @thethirdrooom and the brandâs founder, Beth Hutchens
Developed for multiple locations, the fixture reflects Foundraeâs visual language and material sensibility, with a focus on texture and light. The collaborative process allowed us to create a piece that feels considered and integrated within each space.
