My art is the constant pursuit of equilibrium. I hold the scales in every artwork I commit to, carefully balancing art and design, masculine and feminine energies, bold simplicity and intricate detail, intuition and experience, a free artistic hand and the expertise of intricately considered craft. That balance has brought me into collaboration and partnership with clients as diverse as the National Portrait Gallery, Social Pantry, GF Smith and Monkey Island Estate. Embracing the yin and yang of my personhood as an artist as well as an individual is what fuels my best work. I have found a way to bring my artistic intuition into my graphic design practice and the commissions I create for events, uniting two skillsets which seem diametric, sitting in opposition to one another, yet I embrace as complementary, intersecting disciplines with inform and refine one another. I work as both an artist and printmaking stationer and as a graphic designer.  Working for brands as well as for discerning private weddings and events, I unite skillsets from two seemingly disparate specialisms. I marry them through my driving creative principle - bold simplicity.  Bold simplicity is to render beauty in the most refined way possible.  In every project I strive to condense, to distill, to express with cut-glass clarity and the purest beauty I can. To create artworks which are daring, unique, and stripped of conceit. This is what my clients expect, whether bride and groom or commercial enterprise. Because this isn’t just stationery, or a new logo. This is a bespoke artwork created for unique communication. My clients want lasting art, not generically adorned stationery there simply to deliver instruction. I believe in creating work to value. This speaks from artistic integrity, but also from eco-consciousness. I want to create beautiful things; things to be kept and enjoyed, not recycled when the confetti is swept up and the glasses cleared. To refine to the essence - what I term bold simplicity - means to consider, in detail, even the most subtle choices. One choice, pertinent to printmaker, artist and designer alike, sits at the foundation of the work - the paper.  Because I don’t believe that paper artwork is two-dimensional.  The vehicle which delivers the message is integral to the art. It is a formative decision. Textured and tactile, it can be picked up, the grain of the paper beneath your fingertips, a miniature contoured landscape of embossed letters and silken inks. Just as typography is the vehicle for the message being communicated, paper is the vehicle for the artwork, which cannot exist without it. Diving into these details with and for my clients is what drives me to create.
