Afuera means "outside" in Spanish.
Afuera is born out of Mariella's personal journey and passion to showcase, learn & understand about cultures – not just hers, but from all those around the world. Fueled by a desire to create a platform that would bridge cultures , Afuera empowers us by bringing them to life through design.
Afuera leans on music, food, arts and clothing: the universal expressions of beauty in all cultures. We hope to encourage curiosity and spark conversation. Whether you wear our garments, decorate your home, or simply engage in our community, Afuera invites you to become a part of a new language on diversity.

Gracias to everyone that came to our latest event at @casa___agape ! it always feels a bit like a family affair with them. Really special to see a Latin community in London creating things with so much care, generosity and intention
and its nice being reminded that home can also be something you build together, far from where you started.

she showed us around the studio and spoke a bit about how she works, references, process, materials, all of it. reminding us how important process is!!

Our newest polo is a reminder that sometimes a journey outside becomes a journey inward
"Afuera es casa" means home is outside , because sometimes going outside isn’t about distance, it’s about depth.

Ser latino no es una estética. Es una forma de comer, bailar, vivir , vestirse….y sobre todo no olvidar.
El arroz alimenta a más de la mitad del mundo. Está en Asia, en África, en el Caribe, en cada rincón de América Latina. Pero hay algo que los peruanos le hicieron al arroz que nadie más pudo replicar, lo convirtieron en un estándar de amor..Rico y graneadito. No pegado, no a medias. Perfecto.
Porque en el Perú, el arroz no es un ingrediente. Es una exigencia. Es la primera cosa que te enseñaron a hacer bien. Es el olor de un domingo. Es la voz de tu mamá desde la cocina. Es memoria en cada grano..
Eso es lo que pusimos en la tela. Porque las cosas que nos formaron no pertenecen solo a la mesa, también al cuerpo y al alma. Y esto es Afuera.
Los latinoamericanos nos hemos refugiado en el humor. Sin él no podríamos sobrevivir."
Beatriz González lo dijo. Y creo que todos los latinos lo sentimos.
Seis décadas pintando lo que Colombia vivía y el poder prefería ignorar, con colores que gritan, con ironía que duele, con una fuerza que muchos llamaron “naive” y que en realidad era lo más lúcido que había..Su mayor retrospectiva hasta la fecha acaba de abrir en el @barbicancentre , en Londres. Beatriz falleció en enero, semanas antes de la apertura.. Y nunca la vio colgada, pero la obra ya estaba ahí, como siempre estuvo, diciéndonos lo que necesitábamos escuchar.
Verla como mujer latinoamericana me recordó por qué el arte importa ahora más que nunca. No como decoración sino como el único lenguaje que a veces se permite decir la verdad. Verla desde Londres me hizo pensar en eso que compartimos los latinos: usar el humor para sostener, el color para decir, el baile para soltar, el arte para no olvidar.
En un momento en el que el mundo se siente pesado, confuso, y a veces imposible ,Beatriz me recuerda que el humor también es resistencia. Que el color también es un acto político. Que nosotras también somos archivo ❤️
