Housing Project
Seehund Quartier
Student project by Dario Lantschner, Leonard Elger and Shuqi Tan
Vienna, Austria
„The project is explored through three distinct architectural proposals that differ in volumetric configuration, façade expression, and spatial organization, while sharing a common urban intention.
The design introduces a linear bar building along the southern edge of the European block, forming a clear street connection, with a tower positioned behind it to create vertical density without overwhelming the surrounding context.“

Facade Models
1:50
This semester, we are working on exploring oppositions and setting up deliberate clashes.
We started by designing facades for a housing project in Vienna, without a specific site.
The task is not about solving a problem per se; it’s about creating conditions — environmental, social, spatial, and intuitive — on the facade of the building for the inhabitants.

R52.4_47.6
Thesis project by Petra Ďurišková
Berlin, Germany
Challenging traditional domestic models, R52.4_47.6 imagines housing typologies that support non-nuclear families and contemporary communities in Berlin. Unlike the surrounding Plattenbau buildings, where communal living is often limited to shared corridors or façades, the project redefines how space is shared: 52.4% with loved ones, and 47.6% with co-living neighbours. It balances privacy with interconnectedness, reshaping the home as a space of mutual care, visibility and shared identity. Drawing on Berlin‘s layered history and evolving social fabric, the project embraces new forms of communal living that nurture solidarity and safety, while supporting difference.

POLES
at Angewandte Festival 2025
25.05 - 28.05
Opening: 25.05 / 6PM - 9PM
with contributions from the Institute of Architecture
@ioa.angewandte
Inspired by Vienna’s tradition of multifunctional interior posts, often found in cafés and restaurants, this exhibition showcases poles that subtly shape the space while providing practical use.
Our students have reimagined galvanized metal poles into playful, multi-purpose objects that serve as displays for the Institute of Architecture’s group exhibition. Works from the studios and departments are arranged in relation to the poles, using them as supports, frames, or surfaces to create a dynamic and engaging experience.

The Architecture Pill
Join us for drinks tonight at Ca’Buccari, Venice
9.5.2025 - 18:00-22:00
Some 50 years after Hans Hollein’s „Architecture Pills“, we are paying tribute with our students at the opening of this year’s Architecture Biennale in Venice.
Hans Hollein‘s „Architecture Pills“ is a conceptual project from 1967 that reimagines architecture as a perceptual experience, delivered through fictional pills designed to evoke iconic spatial sensations. This work is part of Hollein’s broader manifesto, „Alles ist Architektur“, published in the 1968 issue of Bau magazine.

Poles
To kick off the new semester, every student received a two-meter-long galvanised steel pipe.
Building on Vienna’s tradition of multi-functional interior posts, the goal was to design and build a pole that could take on multiple tasks. In many great Viennese interiors - such as Hermann Czech’s Salzamt - these human-scale objects serve as coat racks, umbrella stands, lamps, newspaper holders… or all together.

On Living Ghost Towers
Student project by Dario Lantschner, Magdalena Weiermann and Nick Sender
Tirana, Albania
„The project consists of two towers, each divided into three sections and structured entirely on a grid. This modular framework defines everything from the façade to the spatial organization, ensuring efficiency and clarity. The ground level and first floor form a vibrant public area with a transparent glass façade and a dynamic layout. From the third to the tenth floor, the towers accommodate social housing, where floor plans are standardized and efficiently arranged. Apartments are accessed via a shared Laubengang, encouraging interaction among residents. Above the structural eleventh floor, the uppermost section of each tower shifts in relation to the lower structure, creating a distinct visual break in the otherwise rigid grid. Here, apartments feature more adaptable layouts, made possible by a lightweight prefabricated modular system. This flexibility allows for multifunctional use, ensuring long-term viability.“

On Living
59.927 m² - overwhelming, yet digestible
Student project by Conrad Dorninger, Gün Rodoplu and Thomas Luckmann
Tirana, Albania
„In our project we examined the single family house to design a roughly 60‘000m² large building. 50‘000m² of which are suitable for social housing and 10‘000m² as a public university campus and various shops.
On a plot of about 10‘000m², that means the building has an FAR of 6.0. These circumstances have brought us to focus on the human scale, or aspects of such a large development, that could make the experience of living there humane, relatable and social.“

Deconstructing Bathrooms - ongoing
How can we rethink the elements of a bathroom, exploring privacy, shared use, cultural influences, seasonality, and innovative features?
Works by @connydor@jakubs.weg and Jiale Gao
How much space do we truly need? Is privacy achievable in today's compact living environments? Can we find comfort in limited spaces?
Midterm model studies on fitting 60,000 sqm into a mere 10,000 sqm plot.
