RÉSIDENCE BEACONSFIELD par @studio_mha L'ARCHITECTURE PAR SOUSTRACTION. Un geste unique transforme l’espace : le retrait du mur porteur central libère les zones sociales de la maison. Deux fines colonnes d’acier soutiennent le deuxième étage, fusionnant salle à manger, cuisine et salon en un espace lumineux. De nouvelles portes vitrées effacent la limite arrière, laissant pénétrer la lumière au cœur du plan et prolongeant l’intérieur dans le jardin. La palette de matériaux se fait discrète et raffinée : plancher en érable blanchi, îlot blanc cassé, dosseret crème. Le travertin délimite subtilement la cuisine, tandis qu’un mur d’armoires en bois foncé ancre l’ensemble, apportant profondeur et chaleur contrepoint à la luminosité omniprésente. L’architecture par soustraction : tout ce qui demeure est essentiel. Ce qui émerge est un cadre dédié aux rassemblements, où l’ouverture, la lumière et la vie domestique prennent toute leur place. . ARCHTIECTURE BY SUBTRACTION. A single transformative gesture: removing the central load-bearing wall, liberates this home's social spaces. Two slender steel columns now support the second storey, uniting dining, kitchen, and living into one continuous space. New glass doors dissolve the rear boundary, drawing light deep into the plan and extending the interior seamlessly into the garden. The material palette speaks softly: bleached maple flooring, off-white island, cream backsplash. Travertine subtly defines the kitchen zone, while a wall of dark wood cabinetry anchors the composition, depth and warmth as counterpoint to pervasive lightness. This is architecture through subtraction: each element that remains is essential. À travers plusieurs itérations, nous avons noté vers quels matériaux nos clients revenaient, quelles palettes retenaient leur attention. Ces préférences discrètes ont révélé des détails qu'ils ne pouvaient pas articuler. Fort de cette compréhension, nous avons proposé quelque chose d'entièrement nouveau—une combinaison audacieuse et épurée de carreaux bleus et blancs. Ça semblait audacieux. Leur enthousiasme immédiat a confirmé que c'était le bon choix. Maintenant, l'espace transforme leur routine matinale. Intemporel et joyeux à la fois, il encadre le début de chaque journée. . EN This bathroom is where our clients' days begin. Our aim was simple: create a space that sparks joy each morning. The design emerged through careful observation and discussion. Across multiple iterations, we noted which materials our clients returned to, which palettes held their attention. These quiet preferences revealed specifics they couldn't articulate. With that understanding, we proposed something entirely new—a bold, clean combination of blue and white tile. It felt audacious. Their immediate enthusiasm confirmed it was right. Now the space transforms their morning routine. A built-in dining cabinet, at once utilitarian and sculptural, creates a visual continuity with the adjacent kitchen, unifying the rooms. The central window floods the room with natural light, while an understated pendant light beckons everyone to gather around the table. The result: a dining space both purposeful and welcoming. . BEACONSFIELD RESIDENCE by @studio_mha EN Originally built in 1948 as a duplex, the redesign of this single-family home centers on the modification of the vertical circulation. The new U-shaped staircase withdraws from the front façade, forming a luminous entrance, while connecting the main floor's living spaces with the office and bedrooms above. This strategic redesign does double duty: it improves movement through the home and transforms the interior into a light-filled volume. The central living areas bath in sunshine throughout the day. Studio MHA takes a deep approach to design - one that prioritizes foundational structure over cosmetic intervention. By addressing the home's organizing elements with precision and care, we ensure enduring performance. It's architecture as long-term investment: get the bones right, and a building thrives for decades. This one is set for another 75 years. . FR Construite à l'origine en 1948 comme un duplex, la rénovation de cette maison se concentre sur la modification de la circulation verticale. Le nouvel escalier en forme de U se retire de la façade avant, créant une entrée lumineuse, tout en reliant les aires de vie du rez-de-chaussée avec le bureau et les chambres à l'étage supérieur. Cette refonte stratégique remplit un double rôle : elle améliore la circulation dans la maison et transforme l'intérieur en un volume rempli de lumière. Les aires de vie centrales baignent dans le soleil tout au long de la journée.
