Big news! We are thrilled to share that we have received the Talent Development Grant from @stimuleringsfonds !
The coming year we are going to leave the digital realm to create physical spaces that breathe, sound, and react. We will learn to work with sensors, scent design, and spatial audio to give weight and texture to environmental stories.
We will be refining our methodology with the generous help of our mentors in sound, space, light, and theory: @michahamel , @boris_debackere , @mariefrafael , @sssalvadorrr , @zenovdb , and @nickverstand .

This weekend, we present Bauxite Dreams in Utrecht, a spatial installation and sonic essay that traces the lifecycle of aluminium, from raw material to repeated transformation. The work reflects on the unseen journeys of the material and the systems it moves through.
ECHO is a recurring exhibition exploring the potential of residual materials from industry. Each edition centres around a different material stream. This year: aluminium, sourced from Nedal Aluminium.
14 designers and artists work with what already exists, transforming the material into objects and spatial works. Each piece carries traces of a previous life while opening up new possibilities.

Peat! We spent a full day as 3 artists and 3 researchers, visiting 3 peatlands around Amsterdam.
What unfolded was a day full of surprises:
Being hit by the smell of wild mint whilst mooring the boat surrounded by brooding birds.
Feeling the ground float and sink a little, giving the feeling of walking on water.
Digging up a soilcore 2,5 meters deep and running my fingers over a 3.000 year old layer of peat, with ancient twigs and branches perfectly contained, the curious smell of sulfur tickling my brain.
This landscape is stunning. It feels alive and strangely familiar. To inhabit it is a fluid experience, with its dissolving boundaries between water and land, the dead and the living, history and present.

Last week, Kaj spoke at @waterschapagv during the @week.vd.circulaire.economie about how sensory art can fuel the step from theory to practice within themes as circularity, biodiversity, and climate change.
Because in order to make the step from abstract goals towards implementation, there is more needed than just data. We believe we need a collectively shared experience with the matter at hand.
Our installation SENSE, currently on display at the waterschap, translates 37 years of climate data into an 8-minute audiovisual experience. This embodied experience acts as catalyst: it creates the shared urgency and inspiration that are necessary to collectively make steps.

What’s in a masterpiece? What makes something perfect?
We fed the iconic 1642 painting, The Night Watch, into an AI model (SDXL) tasked with making the faces "perfect". This model has been trained on millions of images in our scrupulous pursuit of perfection. The result? New and improved! But...it doesn't look like Rembrandt.
As more and more of our lives exist in the digital and pixelated space, we need to ask ourselves: when are we metabolizing and refining, and when are we replacing uniqueness with algorithmically biased goo?

I grew up by the ocean, and to me, that smell is the definition of home. But somehow, waterside, I’ve never questioned what it is I’m actually smelling. We say ‘salt,’ but salt is a mineral, it’s odourless.
While humans can distinguish tens of thousands of scents, our language for them is limited. It seems that that is part of it’s magic. Scent is associated in our brain, linked to memory, while we still lack the words for what we are experiencing.
With each inhale I’m now learning that im mostly smelling dimethyl sulfide, which is released by bacteria as they decompose dead phytoplankton. So the smell of the ocean is actually the smell of flourishing microorganisms, of post death, of recycling, setting the foundation for new beginnings.

The space between.
Our work functions in the space between. Between the two of us as makers, between disciplines or ideas. Between participants and an artwork, providing room for (re)interpretation of the world.
On a warm October day on Gwanaksan Mountain, we played with this space through contact improvisation and music made on a laptop keyboard, far away from home.
The Singing Soil Workshop (September 25, 2025) used the shared experience of listening sessions and presentations to set the groundwork for co-creation and the mapping of ideas.
