People don’t absorb information in a vacuum. We learn through our senses, and the things we remember most are often shaped by layered, multi-sensory experiences that come together to tell a clear story. It’s easy to get swept up in what looks cool or what’s trending on Pinterest, but without a strong strategy and a well-defined narrative, those moments can quickly turn into gimmicks and missed opportunities.
With our multidisciplinary background—and a long-standing obsession with imagined worlds—we build stories into spaces one layer at a time, from the overall structure down to set dressing and environmental graphics. To us, a #stageset is more than just a composition of cool shapes.
They each have special needs. No rigging points? 5 band changes? Logos to appear in every camera shot? Budget? Performers flying down from the ceiling? 3 camera shots plus a boom shot? Design it with sustainability in mind so it can be reconfigured for a second (and possibly third) life? Budget again? Sightlines? Stage reveal? Stage entrances that meet ADA codes, a robot, a car and possibly a moon rover? Client is inspired by the sun. No, the moon. No, the stars. Definitely the stars. Then of course, each archetype has their own further needs: #AwardsStage, #PerformanceStage, #CorporateStage, #ConferenceStage, #TheaterStage, #FestivalStage, #VirtualStage, #CeremonialStage and all of their combination and permutations.
Our goal is always to address all of that while show no trace of it, except for the poetry of shapes.
That’s why we always tailor design each stage set from scratch, to fit concept, aesthetics, budget, logistics, venue limitations, load-in time limitations, programs, and every possible figure or talent that would grace our stage, from a monster truck to Michelle Obama to Elmo.

Hello everyone! We saw some new faces here (thank you for following!) so we thought that it’s time for us to reintroduce ourselves. We are Irma, Jessica, SuSun, Putri and Jeanette, and we are Studio Left, a #designstudio based in #pasadena.
Below are some facts about us!
We are a design studio (think of us like an architecture studio for temporary spaces, like exhibitions, stages, events, pop ups, installations, festivals, retail spaces, theme parks, you name it) with an extensive experience in production and construction. We have a great track record of pushing design boundaries while maintaining budget, time crunch and getting creative with limitations. .
We are multi-disciplinary, with a focus on spatial design. Our background includes architecture, product design, graphic design, furniture design, theater design, event design, and digital design. We constantly borrow technologies from one discipline to solve challenges in another discipline. It allows us to bring unique solutions to projects.

Some of our favorite work is collaborative: we have a long list of favorite collaborators from lighting designers, tech specialists, fabrication partners, photographers, printers, artists, sculptors, florists, and so on. As mentioned in our last post, we’re celebrating our 15th birthday this month (!!!) by building #Leftopolis — our own tiny playful world somewhere between a dream city and Minecraft. Fifteen years of making, dreaming, designing, experimenting, learning, laughing… and somehow still asking ourselves, “what if we tried this?”
Time really does fly when you’re having fun.
We’re feeling proud, nostalgic, a little emotional, and honestly more creative than ever. So to celebrate our birthday month, we’ve been using every spare pocket of time to simply… play.
And from that spirit came Leftopolis 🎈
