House Of Memories
A home shaped by memory.
A film shaped by feeling.
House of Memories is more than a residence—it’s a quiet dialogue between the past and present, told through reclaimed materials, crafted details, and lived-in rhythms.
In Valsad, Gujarat, the House of Memories by Studio Lagom beautifully intertwines architecture with daily life. Filmed over four days, this project captures the heartfelt reality of its residents, showcasing their daily routines and deep connections within the home. The exposed brickwork and charming courtyard, featuring a well where the grandfather enjoys his daily shave, highlight how true home is built on generational bonds and love. The warmth of the occupants made this project truly special.
Watch as architecture softens into emotion, and space becomes a story.

THE HOUSE OF MEMORIES, VALSAD
~ Where past and present are woven into everyday living
Set on a 9000 sq.ft. plot in Valsad, The House of Memories by Studio Lagom replaces a 22-room ancestral home while preserving its essence through material reuse and spatial continuity. Designed as a load-bearing structure, the house is organized around a verdant courtyard with a lotus pond and an existing well—reframing memory as a central architectural element. The program is arranged in a C-shaped plan, balancing a residence and workspace while ensuring privacy through landscaped buffers and a perforated “dancing brick wall.”
The ground floor accommodates living, dining, kitchen, temple, and bedrooms, while the upper level houses private suites and a family lounge. Large louvered openings, skylights, and layered courts create a strong inside-outside relationship, allowing every space to engage with greenery, light, and air. Barrier-free planning ensures accessibility, responding to the needs of ageing family members while maintaining spatial fluidity.
Materiality is honest and narrative-driven—exposed brick, Kota stone, reclaimed teak, and concrete define the palette. Elements from the old home are carefully integrated: wooden shutters, staircase treads, furniture, and artefacts reappear in new forms, blending nostalgia with contemporary living. Sustainable strategies such as rainwater harvesting, solar energy, and reuse of materials further reinforce the project’s ethos.
More than a residence, the house becomes a living archive—where architecture holds memory, adapts to change, and evolves with its inhabitants.

House of memories
A project by Studio Lagom
The House of Memories in Valsad, designed by Studio Lagom, merges modernity with tradition on a 165’ x 55’ plot. Replacing a 40-year-old residence, the new home addresses issues of accessibility and maintenance while celebrating the family’s heritage. Built with a load-bearing structure of exposed brick, the design highlights a central well and combines old elements with new ones, including salvaged wood and antique furniture. The residence features a workspace with a concrete-bordered facade and a carved wooden door leading to a lush courtyard with a lotus pond. Interior spaces include a living room, temple, dining area, kitchen, and bedrooms, with an emphasis on indoor-outdoor flow. The home incorporates sustainability with solar energy and rainwater harvesting. A notable feature is the 'dancing brick wall,' which balances privacy with ventilation. The House of Memories stands as a functional, elegant blend of past and present. @studio_lagom

Three generations. One home. No hierarchy between what was inherited and what was chosen.
@hardik_shah_ of @studio_lagom joins Dialogues Edition XVIII. Spotlighting House of Memories, where synergy is the quiet conversation between generations. Inherited objects and contemporary interventions coexisting without rank. Memory and material. Craft and context. Past and present. A home designed to hold different rhythms and sensibilities within one coherent architectural language. Not a museum. Not a restart. A continuation.

A-LIST ASIA | A HOME IN VALSAD BY STUDIO LAGOM
