At our Wayne project, we leaned into what already felt good about the house. Mid-century structure gave us clarity, and we layered in softness through texture, tone, and light. Each element was considered on its own, but never in isolation. Because here, the whole is always more than the sum of its parts.

From the first hello to the quiet moments at home, this space is a study in warmth, personality, and mid-century soul. A jewel-box powder room with bold pattern and brass accents. A kitchen that feels as good as it looks, blending function and its natural warmth. And a living room where built-in comfort melds with playful color, inviting you to stay awhile.

A space that’s open, airy, and bathed in light. The surrounding windows allow light to pour in from every angle, while the forest provides a peaceful sense of privacy. We preserved the original wood features and added modern touches, with colorful accents and an airy pendant lamp to elevate the design. Photo by @mcbecks_pix

Mother’s Day invites reflection on the people who shape how a home feels. The homes we remember most are rarely defined by perfection. They stay with us because of what was nurtured there, like a recipe repeated for years. We think often about sanctuary in our work not as an aesthetic, but as a way of supporting connection, ritual, and everyday life. What a space holds matters just as much as how it looks.

A home isn’t built on objects alone. It’s built on what gets carried into it - habits, rituals, recipes, heirlooms. For our client, her mother’s chicken soup is something she loves to make. A small, familiar act that brings warmth and continuity into the space. This project was designed with that in mind. Not just how a home looks, but how it supports the life unfolding within it. Sanctuary lives in the everyday.

Sanctuary on the Main Line was shaped around a feeling as much as a look. Warm, grounded, and light-filled, this home is layered with color and pattern in a way that feels personal. Collected over time, not imposed. There are places to sit on the floor, to pause, to move differently throughout the day. A home that supports how someone actually lives. This project started with something simple: “Can you make this work?” A Coca-Cola red couch. An electric blue fireplace. From there, everything became about honoring individuality - finding ways to hold bold, personal expression inside a historic home. Custom pieces anchor the space: a wool and silk rug based on a childhood painting, hand-crafted tiles, and artwork built from years of collected fragments. A home shaped by the people who live in it.

Designed to feel discovered over time. This Rittenhouse project blends warm neutrals, storied objects, and a point of view. Excited to share a full reveal of this eclectic, grounded home in the heart of the city soon.

Mood boards are a great tool for establishing the visual foundation of a space early on in a project. This is where instinct leads a bit more than rules and where materials, tones, and textures start to find each other. Over time, a direction starts to emerge.

Sometimes what you need can’t be bought. Inspired by the naturally drying flowers of fall, Studio IQL Principal Val Nehez in collaboration with CP Lighting created this custom light fixture for Roots Natural Kitchen location in Fairfax Virginia. We started by cutting old growth wisteria vines and letting them sit overnight in a convenient rain storm so that they would be pliable enough to bend around the light rods. We used a thick gauge copper wire to sculpt the vines. We gave a little play in the wire so that the wood would have room to expand and contract with change in temps and as it ages. After the fixture was filled with the perfect amount of foliage, we finished it off with a spritz of Aqua Net hair spray. If it can hold a beehive hairdo, we thought it would help hold our natural creation.

A moment of pause for everything the earth offers so freely - beauty, material, rhythm, and refuge. Especially now, it feels worth noticing.
