Surely one of the most outlandishly creative duos, Heather and Ivan Morison are known for their architectural sculptures that relate to ideas of escape, play, shelter and refuge. I got to spend the day with them at their studio in Weobley in Hertfordshire, shooting for Now Gallery and the Peninsulist.

To get access to this amount of raw gems we travelled to Singapore where Gemfields holds its auctions of emeralds and rubies from its mines in Zambia and Mozambique.

Shot at the Mayfair townhouse (in quite a tight space!), the backdrops are mural prints of a personal project recreating cosmic scenes I had shot in my darkroom. Zippy bought the ethereal, otherworldly quality.
