“𝓛𝓸𝓿𝓮 𝓱𝓪𝓼 𝓷𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓫𝓮𝓮𝓷 𝓪 𝓹𝓸𝓹𝓾𝓵𝓪𝓻 𝓶𝓸𝓿𝓮𝓶𝓮𝓷𝓽.” Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it means to create in times of global crises and how to service the revolution in ways that will feed conversation, connection, as well as politically educate our communities. How can beautiful things, even what we wear, have more intention behind them? How can we be in a more cyclical dialogue between maker and consumer? These are all questions I have been asking myself. Octavia Butler, James Baldwin and Refaat Alareer were all writers and thinkers who have moved my work and over the last few months I have been designing these shirts with @annabelle.cushman and we’re excited to introduce them to you! The shirts are screen printed by hand locally in Los Angeles by @printhaus.xyz on 6.5 oz heavy-weight t-shirts. Each shirt is made from 100% cotton sourced from the Carolinas. The point of these shirts (or anything I make) is to holistically generate profit for the community. 100% of the proceeds for these shirts will go to families in Sudan, Gaza, and Altadena, CA. This is a time of art, playfulness and revolution. Making it irresistible is being in remembrance of your heroes as well as the words that changed you, the words that reverberated through you, the ones that helped you become more evolutionary and a better comrade. This is a shirt for lovers of words. May we remember the words Alareer, Butler and Baldwin brought us. May we always remember how they lived. The link is in my bio.

a weird time to put out anything with the ongoing brutality in G*za, Congo and Sudan… the world. i haven’t been able to post about much else. but today and tomorrow i’ll be posting about these shirts because @ramashon and i’ve been working on them for a while and i’m personally really proud of them! then i’ll never post about them ever again. these shirts are also only pre-order, which finishes on Sunday, and then you’ll never be able to buy them again…! i like that it’s an ephemeral thing, you either get one or you don’t, harking back to a time where objects had more intentionality. i think a lot about the world and its too many things. i wonder the ethics around making things (even books!) in an overly consumer driven world… do people really need these astrology shirts? probably not. but if you’re like me, you probably enjoy beauty… and that is why i guess i make these, to honor the reality that we need and want beautiful things. let the pursuit of those things be honorable, however, at the bare minimum. i like the framework of @studio___ananda being an ever-evolving extension of a social art practice i’m trying to commit to. it’s a place for me to play with design and parse things in different mediums. to me, these shirts are an incantation of something, a prayer even, like a tattoo, armor, a spell of hope in a hopeless world. each shirt is infused with numerology, symbology designed so sublimely by @ramashon and each sign also has a special astrological haiku written by yours truly. i often think about how much self agency astrology has given me in my life, which is why these shirts came to be. i’ve been studying astrology for fourteen years now, and have read many a person’s chart—this is another part of that offering, that iteration. grateful for @ramoshon ’s brilliance! the sales will be split between him and I, with 10% of the sales also going toward @awaj.foundation ! if you end up getting one of these shirts thank you. you’re supporting me trying to figure out how to exist outside of the bounds of capitalism + you’re also helping us support Bangladeshi garment workers. Hello! We’ve been gone for over a year, as I’ve (@fariha_roisin ) been trying to figure out what’s next for Studio Ānanda. It was a place borne out of necessity during the pandemic, but it was really created to be a place of archive and reference while I wrote my last book, “Who Is Wellness For?” Yet, in and of itself, SĀ is a social art practice that questions how can communities collaborate and design and create better futures and realities together? The last batch of AstroTees were a limited edition run designed by the incredible Sonia Prabhu but we decided it’d be cool to do a second run, and this time @ramashon did the extraordinary designs. Each shirt has a mixture of numerology, symbols and astrology infused, as well as a personalized haiku by me in the middle of each design. 10% of the sales of these shirts will go to @Awaj.Foundation , which was founded by Nazma Akter, a former child and garment worker, who created Awaj to support the workers on the ground in Bangladesh. This comes in light of the giant strike last week of Bangladeshi garment workers, and it’s important to remember, with everything happening in Palestine, that all our liberations are united. This means Congo. This means Sudan. How do we come out of this stranglehold of western imperialism? We create connections on the ground in the global south, and we support a world that favors fair trade. We hope you will buy one of these pieces and love this piece. All of the shirts will be screen-printed locally in California on 6.5oz heavy-weight tees, using natural pigments, made with 100% cotton sourced in North America. Link to buy is in our bio🪐🌟🌏

Since Studio Ānanda was birthed back in 2020, our mission has always been to bring community together and explore accessible wellness tools outside of colonial lens. In two years, we've archived stories, led meditation sessions, organized workshops, hosted a radio show, sold astrology jerseys, posters, and tarot cards (which you can still order!). It has been a beautiful liberating journey where we were able to share & gain wisdom, make mistakes, and above all, heal. But we have come to a place where we realize that healing also comes with embracing change. Transformation. As a team, we have decided to take a pause, remind ourselves why Studio Ānanda was created in the first place, and how we can grow as a community. Change can be daunting as it is unfamiliar, but it is vital to move forward. We thank you for supporting us whether it's by reading our content, listening to our radio show, becoming a member of our Patreon, or purchasing our designs. As a self-funded project, we appreciate it so deeply. We hope you can join us on our journey of transformation. We will come back very soon with new ideas! Stay tuned <3 With love and gratitude, Prinita, Fabliha, Ellen, Sonia, Priya & Fariha.
