a weird time to put out anything with the ongoing brutality in G*za, Congo and Sudan… the world. i haven’t been able to post about much else. but today and tomorrow i’ll be posting about these shirts because
@ramashon and i’ve been working on them for a while and i’m personally really proud of them! then i’ll never post about them ever again.
these shirts are also only pre-order, which finishes on Sunday, and then you’ll never be able to buy them again…! i like that it’s an ephemeral thing, you either get one or you don’t, harking back to a time where objects had more intentionality. i think a lot about the world and its too many things. i wonder the ethics around making things (even books!) in an overly consumer driven world… do people really need these astrology shirts? probably not. but if you’re like me, you probably enjoy beauty… and that is why i guess i make these, to honor the reality that we need and want beautiful things. let the pursuit of those things be honorable, however, at the bare minimum.
i like the framework of
@studio___ananda being an ever-evolving extension of a social art practice i’m trying to commit to. it’s a place for me to play with design and parse things in different mediums. to me, these shirts are an incantation of something, a prayer even, like a tattoo, armor, a spell of hope in a hopeless world.
each shirt is infused with numerology, symbology designed so sublimely by
@ramashon and each sign also has a special astrological haiku written by yours truly. i often think about how much self agency astrology has given me in my life, which is why these shirts came to be. i’ve been studying astrology for fourteen years now, and have read many a person’s chart—this is another part of that offering, that iteration.
grateful for
@ramoshon ’s brilliance! the sales will be split between him and I, with 10% of the sales also going toward
@awaj.foundation ! if you end up getting one of these shirts thank you. you’re supporting me trying to figure out how to exist outside of the bounds of capitalism + you’re also helping us support Bangladeshi garment workers. Link in bio 🤍🤍🤍
