Weeks posts
have to start somewhere. On 16th September I started my loc journey. Over months of subconscious and weeks of conscious deliberation I have given into what was once a dream, aspiration or future reality; something that felt far-fetched from where I am now. The truth is, there’s never a right time to start and now is also the best time to start. I just wanted to feel close to those before me — closer to my identity — to my family’s to my blackness, to my duty. Time to nurture and tend to my garden. I am now free. My identity is on show. I locked to unlock.

2025, designed, then designed & made by Luca Allick-Smith 1. Collision Stacked Ring 2. Fingerprint Ritual Mug (prototypes - did pottery for the first time in January) Embarking on a new personal project called “ARCHAIC ORNAMENTS”: using material to articulate the relationship between time and the development of oneself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Key aesthetic characteristics are rawness, imperfection and wear - evidencing commentary on how life can treat us via inflicting forms of abrasion (self-explanatory). Each piece explores a different form of these key characteristics within the pillars of wellbeing to open conversation, explore solutions and show vulnerability. All pieces, whether it be clothes, product or “ornaments” will be produced and initiated via lived experiences in collaboration with artisans and local craftsmen, keeping the spirit of hand making alive and pushing away from automation. Slow things down, remain close to the process. Learn to be patient and allow things to grow in the time they’re supposed to. This project is an extension of me - think of an avatar. What clothes would they wear, what jewellery, what would they drink out of or live in? Via my projections visually and physically I can depict and showcase my thoughts in a variety of ways Creating a world that houses growth, healing, stillness & most importantly - peace. As a result of this I look to overcome and explore many ways I can improve myself as a person and gain proximity to the person I am destined to be - for the greater good. Taking each day as it comes and enjoying the ups and downs. Life is art & art imitates life - Luca
