I’ve been working on this for a while with my brilliant friend and colleague @jamesrgrieve and my fantastic team at studio three sixty @studio_3sixty .
We are thrilled to announce Sauna Theatre, the UK’s largest sauna and the first to be purpose built to showcase theatre, art and culture. It is (literally) the hottest new venue as part of Summerhall Arts Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society programme.
Sauna Theatre brings together an ambitious programme of Aufguss (an immersive experience using heat, essential oils, towel work and storytelling), theatre, literature and music; all within the soothing heat of sauna.
See you on the sauna bench in August! @summerhallarts@edfringe
Studio 2’s Talking Pictures
A new artwork by @thisisjuderogers@catrin__james@studiomothership for @theatrclwyd
- - -
From 1976 until the mid 1990s, pioneering film and television was made at Theatr Clwyd, in a purpose-built recording studio that came to be known as Studio 2.
A wide range of programmes was made at Studio 2, and it was cherished by the people who worked there, but the personal day to day stories of this time were never recorded.
As part of Theatr Clwyd’s public art programme, we commissioned Jude Rogers and Catrin James to help uncover and tell these stories.
Over several months, Jude and Catrin interviewed dozens of people with connections to Studio 2. They learned about the pioneering work done there and the egalitarian, utopian spirit that was fostered. As the project evolved, Jude and Catrin built a new collection of oral history, which will be available to explore via the Theatr Clwyd website.
Alongside this, Catrin created two collage artworks using materials gathered during the research phase of the project. We then worked collaboratively with design practice Studio Mothership to develop these ideas into a sprawling public art piece, which leads visitors on a journey into the newly refurbished cinema foyer at Theatr Clwyd.
The finished artwork, which includes playful cut-out elements and multi-layered photos housed in custom TV frames, is a vibrant and joyful tribute to the history of Studio 2, and a celebration of community and collaboration - two things that continue to be at the heart of Theatr Clwyd’s mission today.
Jude and Ken from Studio Mothership joined us on site to oversee installation. Photos from the day by the brilliant @forrest.pictures

Over the past couple of years studio three sixty has been working with rising artist @simplysauda on a major new textile commission for @theatrclwyd as part of the theatre’s public art programme. To help us realise Sauda’s vision, we’re collaborating with renowned fabric and drape suppliers @jcjoelltd
Just before Christmas we met up with Sauda at the J&C Joel factory in Sowerby Bridge to check in on progress and make some final design decisions. Read more about the visit on our blog via the link in our bio.

This Friday, we’re thrilled to be organising an event at @kronhuset.se as part of @kulturnatta in Gothenburg.
We’ll be shining a spotlight on the musical theatre scene in Sweden, building on our work with the Swedish Musical Theatre Symposium earlier this year. Students from HSM will be performing during the evening, and there’ll also be an exhibition of costumes from recent musicals. Take a closer look at costumes from hit shows including Charlie & chokladfabriken (Göteborgsoperan) and Beetlejuice (Östgötateatern), and get a unique glimpse into the creativity and craftsmanship of the designers and professionals behind the scenes who bring the garments to life.
One night only! Doors open at 17.00, hope to see you there!
Event organised in collaboration with @higab_se

At eich coed • Wood for the trees
A new artwork by @manon_awst for @theatrclwyd
At eich coed is a large glass artwork that brings elements of the local landscape into the interior public spaces of Theatr Clwyd, like extra windows to the outside. The glass is printed with the distinctive bark pattern of plane trees, creating a sprawling mirrored forest that encourages visitors to interact and play.
At eich coed is a permanent installation at Theatr Clwyd and part of the building’s public art programme, with funding from @celfcymruarts
We sat down with Manon to find out more about the artwork and the process behind it – read more via the link in bio!

Last month, @theatrclwyd proudly reopened its doors to the public – a huge milestone after a transformative £50 million redevelopment.
With the first phase of the re-opening complete, @lewisjsmith92 has written a new blog post for our journal, sharing insights from a busy period on site as we helped the theatre prepare for this exciting new chapter.
This has included overseeing the installation of two new artworks by @francesprieststudio and @manon_awst — more on these very soon!
Head to the link in our bio to read the full post.

Last month we paid a visit to @cdjackfield with @francesprieststudio – one of the artists we’ve commissioned to create a new artwork for @theatrclwyd
Frances is creating a large-scale ceramic installation for the theatre – a tiled artwork that will span over 14m in length – and is working with CD Jackfield to produce the tiles.
It was such a joy to see the work in progress, to learn about how the tiles are made, and meet the incredibly talented team involved in each stage of the process. @lewisjsmith92 has reflected on the day on the studio three sixty website – link in bio!
