@studio24melb is a fantastic studio here in Melbourne. @mellieyu and I had the pleasure of shooting in this space today and loved not only the large and versatile space…but loved all of the thoughtful touches Jovan and the team have put into this whole experience.
Clear attention to detail, multiple sets, professional lighting available, a makeup station, amazing coffee, a beautifully curated selection of props and furniture… absolutely everything we needed to nail Mel’s branding shoot today!
Thank you @studio24melb 💞
BTS from today @studio24melb with the gorgeous @mellieyu for her 2026 branding photoshoot ✨ more content to come! New chapter, new vision, new woman.
Something we discussed today was how it is so so important for all businesses to update headshots, branding imagery and marketing assets every 6 months. Why?
Because the purpose for those assets changes! You change! The business grows. It looks different. That’s a good thing.
Who you are now, the services you offer and your phase of business evolves significantly in 6 months. It’s important that a brand prioritises visual updates to keep up with the growth of the rest of the brand.
That’s exactly what we did for Mel today in this incredible studio space.
3 tips to make better photos in studio
1️⃣Use a Strong Key Light (Your Main Light)
Your key light should shape the body and face.
✔ Place it 45° from the subject
✔ Use a softbox for smooth skin
✔ Keep it slightly above eye level
This creates depth and professional shadows instead of flat lighting
2️⃣ Add a Back Light for Separation
The back light gives that cinematic glow around the subject.
✔ Place it behind or slightly to the side
✔ Aim it toward the hair and shoulders
✔ Keep it less powerful than the key light
This makes the subject pop from the background.
3️⃣ Shoot Low and Use Space
Notice how the subject is small in the frame with lots of space.
✔ Shoot lower than eye level
✔ Leave negative space around the subject
✔ Use a clean background
