A little late, but here it goes. My 2016-2026. Those were the years I had the immense joy of working for and alongside Shawna. First she was a client, then I became her go-to designer, and these last couple years I worked almost exclusively on Shawna Collins Events. If you could print out our text messages like a receipt, they’d be miles and miles long. I didn’t realize exactly how intertwined she was in my everyday, until she was gone. There have been countless amazing posts written about Shawna these few weeks. Every bit is true. The way she saw people, encouraged, loved, supported and celebrated everyone around her was unmatched. I still don’t understand how she made time for everything she did in a day. She was an incredible lady. I’ve heard many people talk about her events and how she celebrated everyone, from big elaborate parties to small thoughtful gestures. It’s so fun to scroll back through Instagram and reminisce. And here’s the thing: I got to be behind the scenes, brainstorming, hearing all the why’s and reasons, all the special things, all the details, all the challenges. I had the privilege of witnessing her thought process and getting to know her (and all those around her) in such a unique way. In the depths of so much sadness, I just have so much gratitude for the time I knew Shawna. We had the most amazing things on the calendar for this year. Never would I have imagined that I’d be finishing out a few of them without her. I don’t know what I am doing next. But I do know Shawna would never want me to stop creating. And I know I am very open to whatever the Lord has next for me, carrying with me the incredible example Shawna was to all of us.
