Hello! My name is Chamisa. I’m an illustrator and author based in Portland, Oregon. I love drawing nature, imaginative worlds, and playful curious characters. My visual voice is both gentle and bold, nostalgic and fresh. I’ve illustrated several picture books, some have won awards or garnered starred reviews! My author-illustrator debut, Diana and the Dolphin, was published in early 2025. I want to tell stories featuring strong female characters, Stories about adventure and our connection to nature, stories about family and community.
In between picture books and personal projects, I’ve been working on a middle grade graphic novel pitch. It’s a story about creative self-doubt, grief, and friendship, set in a magical west-coast hippy town. This project is close to my heart and I hope to see it out in the world soon!

Had the pleasure of participating in this fun personal project initiated by fellow illustrator @here_4_cheese — a series of trading cards describing the artist experience. I chose to make one about exploring new materials and how that can sometimes break us out of creative ruts. I made this artwork by scanning in a gouache texture and drawing over it with a procreate brush, which is a process I hadn't tried before, and I really enjoyed it.
