Objects matter. For The Little House, a lot of the character came not from large gestures, but from the smaller things that quietly shape how a space feels — a handmade lantern, a woven chair, a shelf of everyday kitchenware, the variation in tile, the warmth of timber, the softness of linen. These were the kinds of decisions that helped the house feel layered and lived in, rather than overly styled or too polished. The intention was to bring together pieces and materials that felt honest, useful, and full of texture — things that could hold their own quietly within the space. Some were made locally, some were sourced through local shops, and some were simply chosen because they carried the right sense of hand, mood, and place. The Little House moves between two moods. One is light, airy, and open. The other is quieter — shaped by shadow, timber, woven texture, and the kind of natural light that brings depth rather than brightness. In these spaces, the intention was not to overcorrect the darkness, but to work with it. To let the materiality speak, to keep the atmosphere intact, and to allow the room to feel intimate, grounded, and calm. The quality of light changes throughout the day and across seasons, allowing the same space to hold different moods over time. Sometimes the most memorable spaces are not the ones that reveal themselves all at once, but the ones that unfold more gently through light, texture, and time. Project spotlight: The Little House, Chiang Mai. A hospitality project shaped around warmth, quiet living, and a slower design language — with a focus on natural textures, soft light, and a sense of ease. What began as a small accommodation project became a chance to explore a more personal design approach through Studio Baro: creating a space that feels calm, tactile, and quietly lived in, while still holding its own sense of character. Working with an existing teak house, the approach was less about transforming it completely and more about responding to what was already there — keeping the architecture intact, working with its character, and allowing its imperfections to remain part of the experience. Natural materials, warm timber tones, soft textiles, ambient lighting, and gentle layering were used throughout to create an atmosphere that feels calm, tactile, and easy to settle into. Marguerite, Singapore Interior Design & Interior Styling Back in 2021, before we officially became Studio Baro, we had the incredible opportunity to work on Marguerite, located on the ground floor of the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. Our goal was to create a serene and welcoming atmosphere by working with the space’s beautiful, light-filled environment and complementing its botanical surroundings. We embraced the natural light, using muted tones and humble materials to achieve a warm, wholesome mood with an understated elegance. Playful elements, such as the display shelves in the open kitchen area, showcasing Chef Michael Wilson’s personal collection of books and objects adding personality, as well as allowing light to filter through to the entrance corridor. Simplicity and softness were key in keeping the space cosy yet refined, with accents of artwork enhancing the overall ambiance.
