Does this guy actually need an introduction? Really?!
If barbershop had a built-in GPS, it would probably be set to “Where’s Stuart?” – He’s the guy you need!
Stuart is a vocal and performance coach based in the Netherlands, a professional chorus and quartet director, a singing teacher, and a BHS-certified Singing Judge (since 2023, thank you very much). He’s a familiar face at Harmony Colleges, Directors’ Colleges, Quartet Schools all over Europe — and even at Harmony University. Basically, if there’s harmony involved, chances are Stuart’s there.
He found barbershop way back in 1977 (at the age of eight!) and never looked back. By fifteen he was already directing his local chorus and he’s still at it today. Fun fact: he’s won national quartet gold medals in every single voice part. A walking, singing full-stack quartet!
Over the years, Stuart has sung with champion quartets in both the UK and the Netherlands, representing The UK on the International stage. His directing career has taken choirs and choruses of every kind - men’s, women’s, mixed, gospel, pop - to national and European success. His current choirs, No Borders Show Chorus and Mixed Nuts, are both making serious waves: the latter even won the Holland Harmony Chorus Contest 2023 after just seven rehearsals. Say What?!
After all these years, he’s settled back on bass… and honestly, the foundation has never sounded better.
They don’t call him Stuart ‘you better hold on to something sturdy’ Sides. Well, nobody really calls him that, but everyone should!
