Next Tuesday Cameron Craig and I will be running a live tracking session at the Winchester Audio Barn showing our approach to capturing a five piece band live in the studio. Like it says in the title, this is a no compromise approach to recording in a no compromise studio and between us we have 85 years of experience doing this….. ( that looks weird now I’ve written it down). The event runs from 12 until 6, there’s a free buffet and it’s a great opportunity to see one of the most impressive new UK studios of the last 20 years, do a bit of networking and hang out with some old friends. Sign up link in the comments. DM me for any further info. I hope to see you there. 👍

A busy week. A big thank you to Katie May and Real World Studios for making my Canadian brother Brent Jones and I so welcome. 2 days of Piano and vocal tracking for his next album as well as a Wood Room gig playing the whole of his last album alongside Jennifer Crook and Neville Farmer. Then 2 days tracking drums at Winchester Audio Barn (can’t say who with yet). These drums sound massive!!
Thank you to everyone for the lovely Birthday messages. I had a great day with some dear friends and your messages were a big part of the joy. ❤️❤️ ( foolishly I didn’t get a photo with Bill, Nikki and Rob but they were on the other side of the table from the cake)
It’s a rare event but Mike Banks has been captured in multiple photos at the Winchester Audio Barn………. Expect a video on RecordProduction.com Producers soon…….
Last night I was at the Music Producers Guild - MPG awards courtesy of the lovely people at Solid State Logic (SSL). While it’s always great to spend some time with fellow studio people and celebrate their amazing creative skills I was principally there because my dear friend Mike Banks was up for the Unsung Hero award which he won. I don’t think there is a more fitting award for the greatest champion of our crazy business that I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. The award was presented by the fabulous Ken Scott who spoke for us all in his description of Mike, there was a standing ovation, Mike was totally surprised ( of course he was!!!!) and we all got to express how much we appreciate, admire and love him. I wouldn’t have missed that moment for anything. 👍👏❤️
Today I shall be mostly prepping cables…….. and in honour of the mighty Garth Hudson I will only be listening to The Band. I’d like to think Garth would have approved of this place. 2 Hammonds ,2 Pianos , a Wurlitzer, Rhodes and a whole bunch of other keys…… and of course listening to The Band was a core reason I wanted to be in a studio in the first place. Thank you Garth. ❤️
Now we have the monitors installed lunchtime is the moment to put on a CD. These monitors sound great and so does this album. Hats off to Charlie Jones. Back to running cables shortly!
All the pop stars of my youth… and I was that 13 year old girl rushing out to WHSmith’s to buy the single. Or was it Woolworths? It was only the 2nd one I ever bought and for probably 99p. Still got it. Turns out I now know the guy who recorded it quite well (and he recorded and co-produced my last album). Keep your eyes peeled for another Christmas/Winter album @stuartbruce1 has been working on with us.

Yesterday was a particularly good day which finished spectacularly with a gig from the Fabulous Robert Vincent. Rob is an astonishing songwriter and performer who never fails to move me every time I hear him sing. If you’ve not heard him yet I really encourage you to. Last night we got the full band and it was spectacular. Hats off to everyone on stage and also to the amazing Mr Ethan Johns and his Black Eyed Dogs. Onstage musical freedom that takes you to the good places and beyond.
Music is the best. ❤️
Ps. Wasn’t in a good place to get a full band shot so here’s Rob and Anna…….
