On Aug 17, 2017, Story Vest was laid down for a nap at daycare and never woke up due to positional asphyxiation. Though her time on earth was short, she filled the lives of everyone who knew her with joy and love that continues today. In her honor, the Story Vest Memorial Calf Roping was created to bring the roping community together, raise funds, and give back.
Because of that support, Story’s legacy lives on - providing Owlets for newborns, supporting CASA children, funding school lunches, donating coats and playground equipment, helping families at Christmas, and more. In 2025, the memorial pledged $70,000 toward a new splash pad in Childress, continuing its mission to spread love in Story’s name and keep her memory alive through being a blessing to children.
May 1st will be our sixth annual Story Vest Memorial Calf Roping with 45 calf ropers competing for $90,000 over three rounds and a top 12 short go.
