Chinatown We Love You for Jazz studio orchestra - Intro
Sharing the Intro of my new Jazz studio orchestra piece (covid strings orchestra basically lol) "Chinatown We Love You". The first theme is an expression of nostalgia. It's been two years that I haven't come back to Guangzhou. I hated the whopping price of air tickets during this pandemic which stopped many people from going back. Also it's sad that some real patriots can't go back again because of the criticism about government. It's afflictive and ridiculous. As for me, China town seems like the only place to visit when I miss my hometown Guangzhou. I've been missing the old streets, the food, my friends and family - especially my little three-year-old twin brothers. I made the promise to go back home before summer but now I go back on my words again. I'm just an unreliable person lol.
In the Intro, I used a more traditional romantic orchestration and one of Chopin's Etudes Themes(at the end) to depict my homesick. The band was sounding absolutely amazing since it was just a 30-minute reading section for a 7-minute piece. Many thanks to the pals that pre-read the music. Much love. ❤️

The theme came into my mind last year when I was imagining the scene of reunion after the pandemic. There were so many friends who left nyc without a goodbye and never came back. And so many plans and longing went up in smoke. "When will this craziness end?" I even doubted myself should I keep on doing music. It's a bad period indeed. But still I believe there will be a revival. 🙏

Woke up this morning and found out that I'm on Apple Music's homepage. 🎁 New single "He Will" got selected for the Jazz Chill playlist (even though it's the most rough tune on the EP)😅 So honored to be on the same collection with some of my favorite jazz musicians, including Aaron Parks, Keith Jarrett, Suillivan Fortner, and Joshua Redman etc. Hope "Will He?" will be included in something as well when it comes out. 😋 ps.
