This National Volunteer Week, we proudly recognise the volunteers and community organisations whose compassion and commitment continue to make a lasting impact within our community.🙌🏻
By giving your time and sharing your knowledge, you help create inclusive spaces where individuals accessing NDIS and aged care services feel supported, empowered, and connected. Your contribution reaches far beyond each session delivered - it strengthens lives, families, and the wider community.💚

📖 Stroke survivors do not just need more information — they need better information.
After a stroke, people are often exhausted, frightened, overloaded, and trying to process life-changing news at the exact moment their brain is least able to absorb it. 🧠
In our latest Be StrokeWize blog, we explore why accessible, compassionate stroke education matters so deeply:
✅ Why information is not the same as understanding ⚖️
✅ How fatigue, aphasia & cognitive overload affect recovery 🔁
✅ Why accessible support is a dignity issue, not a luxury 💙
✅ How quieter moments between therapy shape recovery too 🌿
Recovery begins with understanding.
And understanding begins with information people can truly use.
This blog also shares the thinking behind *StrokeWize: Recovery in Colour* — created to make stroke support more accessible, calming, and inclusive for survivors and families.

Every year, around 9,500 New Zealanders have a stroke, with 1 in 4 adults over 25 impacted in their lifetime.
It is not just something that affects older people either. More than a third of strokes happen in younger people too, just like Jamie.
Up to 90% of strokes are considered preventable. Often through small lifestyle changes and things that can genuinely change the outcome before it becomes life changing.
That is exactly why Health15 exists.
What started as a stroke prevention idea has grown into something much bigger, with free health and wellness checks now going directly into workplaces and construction sites across New Zealand.
Blood pressure and heart health checks, diabetes awareness, skin checks, and mental health conversations, all focused on making it easier for everyday working people to take control of their health before something goes wrong.
When Simeon Brown heard about the impact of what was happening, the Health15 team was invited to Parliament to share how this has developed into one of New Zealand’s leading workplace health and wellbeing initiatives.
Real change doesn’t always start in hospitals later on. It starts earlier, in workplaces, on site, and in the middle of everyday life where people are actually living and working.
Very proud of Jamie as he keeps working towards a healthier construction industry across New Zealand and raising awareness as he goes.

Headed down to @makingstridesau yesterday to get a quote on a new AFO. Really positive experience on the whole process. A new AFO is definitely needed as a lot of things have changed in the past year. Looking forward to what’s ahead😁

“They said she’d have to start again… so she did. 💪✨”
Before her stroke, Scarlett had already completed every gymnastics badge. Then her world changed overnight.
Now, living with left-sided hemiplegia and hemiplegic cerebral palsy, she is relearning what her body can do — rebuilding strength, balance, confidence, and belief in herself one step at a time.
And today, she achieved her Level 8 badge all over again. 💪
Nothing comes easily now, but Scarlett never gives up. She keeps showing up, keeps pushing through the frustration, and keeps proving just how strong she really is.
Watching her adapt and fight for every achievement makes me prouder than words can say.
For a little girl who has already overcome so much, this badge means everything. ❤️
Keep going, Scarlett… you are truly unstoppable. 💜💪
