Today we celebrate Ruben De Gheselle — and a body of work that continues to expand in bold and compelling directions.
🏆 Awarded Belgian Film Composer of the Year at the World Soundtrack Awards last October for "Young Hearts" by Anthony Schatteman and "There Was There Was Not" by Emily Mkrtichian, Ruben has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting voices in Belgian film music.
🐺 A major current focus is Nathalie Álvarez Mesén’s upcoming gothic feature "The Wolf Will Tear Your Immaculate Hands", for which Ruben is creating the score — a collaboration that builds on their earlier work ("Clara Sola") together and explores darker, more atmospheric musical territory.

📽 Ruben is currently completing his scores for "Noor", a feature documentary by Jérôme le Maire, and the second season of Channel 4’s crime drama "Patience" - co-composed by Hannes De Maeyer, while also working on the Icelandic-Belgian crime series "Elma" and on the comedy drama series"Vero Forever".
🏆🇧🇪Congratulations to Ruben De Gheselle who was named Belgian Film Composer of the Year for his subtle and intimate scores for Young Hearts (Anthony Schatteman) and There was, There was not (Emily Mkrtichian).
De Gheselle is one of the most promising voices in Belgian film music. His style is characterised by fragility and detail, often unfolding emotion through minimal and tactile instrumentation.

⚔️ You might know composer Justine Bourgeus as artist Tsar B. Belgian Composer Hannes De Maeyer also needs little introduction. Their work for @thisisnotamurdermystery began as a musical duel: they were originally asked to pitch separately for the series, but quickly decided to join forces. "We felt that our personal worlds could reinforce each other — almost magically," they say.

💬 Al Qadiri's collaboration with French director @ozonfrancois for 'L'Étranger' stemmed from a shared fascination with time, strangeness, and longing — and from the performance at the heart of the film:
“Benjamin Voisin was incredibly inspiring — the way he moves, his expressions, the shadows across his face. He seems to hover through his life, suspended between innocence and detachment. I wanted the music to mirror that feeling, to capture the quiet tension beneath his stillness and the anger simmering in Djemila’s presence.”
