Great to see such a strong turnout at the Oxbridge Muslim Alumni Spring Social & Meet the Committee event, with 55+ attendees from across the alumni and the wider professional community!
The evening marked an important moment for the network as the Co-Chairs, Zehn Mehmood @zehnmehmood and @muhammed_u_khan , shared the relaunch vision for OMA, focused on strengthening community ties, enabling meaningful professional and personal connections, and creating more structured opportunities for mentorship and service.
We are also grateful to our sponsors, @strideup.co for their support in making the event possible, and to Sakeeb Zaman and Mohsin Patel @islamicfinanceguru / cur8.capital for their thoughtful contributions and reflections on entrepreneurship and leadership.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the energy and communal vibe of the evening. It was a pleasure to see both familiar and new faces engaging so positively with the community.
A special mention to Jakaria for the beautiful Quranic recitation and the members of the committee Firyal, Milad, Syed, Usman, Aatif and Adil who organised such a memorable evening.
If you’d like to get involved with the network, hear about future events and connect with your fellow alumni, you can sign up for membership (link in bio).
We would also be grateful if you take a few moments to give us some feedback which will go towards improving our events and shaping your OMA (link also in bio).

Myth Buster #1
A common misconception is that Islamic home finance is simply conventional lending with different terminology.
In reality, the structure is different.
A Home Purchase Plan is typically based on co-ownership and leasing. The financier purchases a share of the property and leases that share to the customer. Monthly payments usually include rent for the financier’s share and payments that gradually increase the customer’s ownership.
Sharia compliance is determined by the structure of the contract, not by whether the overall cost appears similar to conventional finance. Read more on our website, link in the bio.

Still reflecting on last week’s recognition at the GlobalCapital European Securitisation Awards 2026.
Behind the two awards is something bigger: a belief that shariah-compliant home finance can be structured, funded and delivered at institutional scale.
As Sakeeb Zaman, CEO of StrideUp, put it: “This recognition reflects what we set out to achieve: to demonstrate that shariah-compliant home finance can operate at scale within institutional markets.”
We are proud of what this milestone represents, not just for StrideUp, but for the wider future of faith-aligned finance in the UK.
With thanks again to the partners who helped make this possible: Cur8 Capital, Venn, Citi, Standard Chartered, BNP Paribas CIB, Simmons & Simmons, Linklaters and Foot Anstey.

Rizwan Ali, Head of Sales at StrideUp added, “Communication is really important to us, it’s at the centre of how we work with brokers every day. That’s why it’s always great to hear feedback like this from the people we partner with.”
