You can tell Stevie & Lindsey thought they were making the big Oscar bait, closing credits anthem. Alas, that honor went to Van Halen. Stevie was none too pleased: "When songs go into movies you might as well dump them out the window as you’re driving by because they never get heard." Tough break for "Twisted." Still blows every Diane Warren power ballad off the map if you ask me. This soundtrack also has a dope Tori Amos remix, k.d. lang doing the theme to a totally different '90s movie (Love Affair with Warren Beatty & Annette Bening), Rusted Root doing their Rusted Root thing, and a Navarro-era Chili Peppers song called "Melancholy Mechanics" (naturally). It's like a twister hit Warner Bros. and all these tracks got flung onto the same CD. Just a bunch of "crazy men, crazy women/cryin' out for love."

Let the shameless self-promotion begin: I wrote about my favorite restaurant and my favorite music thing for one of my favorite magazines. Fun! Link in bio. Thanks, Emily, Laurence, Caroline, Brooke, Jacob, and everyone I talked to for the story.

This one's got exclusives from Nas, The Pharcyde, L.L. Cool J, Chuck D, Angélique Kidjo (closing credits?), and (checks notes) MC Hammer & Deion Sanders!! '90s enough for you? Not available on streaming, but you can find the video on YouTube. Sumo wrestling and pole dancing in the same club. No wonder the single charted in the UK.

I'm on my first go-round, so excuse me if this is old news, but Lucy is the hero of Twin Peaks.

First "Hey, look what I did tonight" post. Was reminded we had Willie tickets in Brooklyn in 2015, but the boy was born two weeks early. Might've crossed my mind we'd missed our chance; Willie had other plans. We finally made it, @lisacericola !

Here we have the peculiar, only-in-the-'90s case of a movie with three soundtracks: the obligatory Danny Elfman score, the Madonna album, and this curio, produced and mostly written by the late Andy Paley. Erasure, k.d. lang, and Ice-T (!) alongside Brenda Lee, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Al Jarreau doing originals in various 1930s styles. Kind of a precursor to O Brother, Where Art Thou? or The Great Gatsby, only in this instance no one cared. Not mad at it for $3 from @seasickrecords .

Was reading the obits for Asha Bhosle, and they led me here. Has anybody heard of this crazy album? The Real World-core utopian global fusion of Peter Gabriel and Damon Albarn's dreams. Asha and Michael Stipe! The queen Neneh Cherry and Speech! Grant Lee Phillips, Horace Andy and...Kurt Vonnegut?!? Who wants to pay me to write the oral history?
