You Come Before You was/is a transformative record for me. I’ve loved everything Poison the Well has released since then. I didn’t think it would take 23 years between hearing that record and seeing them live but I’m so happy to hear some of my favorite songs and pay respects to the people who wrote them.
I was so tired, jet-lagged and sick with anxiety that I struggled to even leave my hotel room and I questioned every decision I made to come to California. Then I had my most joyous, exciting and dominant performance in competition ever. I had quietly prepared for months with grinding training and lots of lonely mornings and freezing evenings of brutal strength and conditioning so if my mind betrayed me hopefully my body could push through to win. This wasn’t some “hero’s journey,” it was just a test to see what I could endure when I was stripped of the luxuries of dependence, familiarity and excuses. Thanks to my coaches @truebeliever_jiujitsu@mikehluhanart@rufio_pistacio@passerrelllo for growing my skills and confidence , my trainer @bpa_strength for building workouts that powered me through opponents 40+lbs heavier and @g.freitasbjj for calmly coaching and adjusting my game at the tournament on short notice. And thanks to everyone for the kind words and congratulations, totally humbling. #theactionisthejuice
Grateful to attend the seminar from @juliogfteam (and @vitoroliveirabjj !). I’m always proud to support and represent GFTeam’s social missions of inclusivity and perseverance.
