Just like the compromises in taste that you reframe as deliberate rebellion..discontent exists. The printed copies are real, Were Just waiting for the refurbishment of our website which is currently down but will be up again in a day or 3 , and finally you can enjoy the intellectual vitriol that shopify wouldn’t allow us to publish on the new discontent website and more importantly, no more international shipping pains. A culturally superior publication

Discontent x brokenpattern_ — investigative intelligence on the political, socioeconomic, technological and the things your favourite party doesn’t want modelled. Starting with xenophobia as a governing technology. Because someone had to say it properly. We’ve matured into covering adult stuff. Which is convenient, because the adults in this country love to complain in the comments, scroll past the ballot, and call it activism. We see you. Article is live. IIt’s a Wrap (Unfortunately). @vespucci spent December hate-scrolling Spotify Wrapped and somehow convinced himself this required a long essay. Taste became virtue, listening became achievement, and he became that guy — overthinking a feature everyone else posted and forgot about by Tuesday. This is a serious article written by an unserious person about unserious people taking unserious data very seriously. It mentions Spotify, drones, pseudo-intellectuals, and the moral weight of pressing play. Read it if you enjoy cultural criticism, self-owning, and watching an author argue with himself in public.

This week in Discontent: What they don’t want you to know about the Matlala hearings. Forget the corruption allegations.Because @leighmathys shifted her papers and our reporter Modise forgot how to write coherent sentences. He tried to DM her . Seven times. Including the phrase “flexible emotional availability.” But thankfully he doesn’t know how to use instagram. The story investigates how Matlala sips water and whether he’s the Malcom X of Mamelodi. This is the Matlala hearing coverage that ends with Modise throwing his phone under a table and a waiter asking if he’s okay. The story nobody else had the audacity—or stupidity—to publish. “Then I sent DMs that included the word “Freirean.” “Then I compared a corruption-accused official to Malcolm X.” Short Left II: The unhinged investigative journalism you didn’t know you needed.
