Thought it was time for my yearly post 😅 mainly because a bit has happened since my last one. In December I finished setting up the workshop at home and moved everything across, along with some new equipment. Now that I’ve got the time and space I’ve been working on a few projects while I’ve been on leave from both jobs this month. But I’ll save that for my next yearly post. Shout out to Prue for filming while I worked. I’ve become mega useless at getting any footage. Planning on changing that with the new setup.

I get a real kick out of supporting local both as a consumer and a business. I get an even bigger kick out of it when I fill those roles simultaneously. In this instance it was drinking some (truly delicious) @sailorsgravebrewing Sou’ East Draught (picked up from @themeeniyanstore ) while I heat treated and packed the order to be shipped off to sunny East Gippsland. I thought the second wave of restrictions in Victoria would mean a slump for S&A, but it has been anything but. It’s great to see small businesses pushing ahead and innovating in the face of adversity. I get a real kick out of supporting these local businesses, and I’m eternally grateful for their support in return.
A few weeks ago I teamed up with @raw_harvest , who has been a big supporter of mine, and put one of @peterdrewarts ’ rad posters out the front of the cafe for a subtle reminder that the only reason we’ve come this far is because we’ve worked together, and we’ll have some normality soon enough.

I started Straight & Arrow in 2012 when I started my PhD. One of the reasons behind this was to contribute to positive change, which the clothing industry desperately needed (and still does). It gave me a platform to work with likeminded people, support local businesses and groups and also educate about what good clothes actually are. While it still has a way to go, during that time I’ve seen some big changes in the industry.
However, as a country we now face more immediate issues. These are unprecedented. On a scale we have not experienced before. Like many Australians my heart aches while I desperately try and think of ways to contribute help in some form. I’ve donated money and will continue to do so, but I am still left wanting to do more. I never had any intention to make what I do political in any way, but I also never thought I’d see so much of both Gippsland and Australia burn.
These Hopeless stickers I designed (/parodied from Shepard Fairey) are available on my online store (link in bio), with all profits going to @wildlifevictoria who are doing some seriously outstanding work during these difficult times.

One of the eternal struggles of a small-time screen printer is running out of screens, then running out of time to re-stretch new silk on old frames, but not wanting to buy new ones because you don’t like the new aluminium ones.
Throwback to the last screen I had, which ended up having two jobs squeezed onto it.
