Just wrapped up this building last week. It's a gambrel aisled barn I designed for a client in SC featuring jowled posts, double braces, prows, and lots of other fun details. I'm particularly pleased with the geometry. The roof pitches are 30° and 60°, and every plane of the Bents are the exact same length (floor to eve, eve to break, and break to peak). Therefore an equilateral triangle is created between the outside posts at the ground and the peak.
Super grateful and fortunate to work with such an awesome crew. Thanks for all the hard work and the good times. @nathanvargomusic@julian.pinelli@morrisonbuildco
On to the next one!

Stop splayed, wedged and tabled scarf with under-squinted and sallied abutments. This was some tricky layout given the compound squinting on such varied Timbers. But carful layout and carful cutting gets it done!

Offsetting peg holes to pull the joint together. This keeps the joint tight as the wood dries and shrinks. #timberframe #woodworking #historicbuildings #craft
Some more from the last raising. I really like the roof details on this frame. Upper chords are set below the roof plane to beef up the bottom chord connection, this also allows for a full depth connection between the purlin and upper chord without removing a bunch of material from the upper chord. A packing piece fills the space between the upper chord and the sheathing. Rafters are housed and screwed into the purlin a tongues and forked at the peak. English tying joints at plates. Lots of fun!!
Happenings in the shop last week. Had a lot of fun on this wall system. Our client was enthusiastic on incorporating some organic shapes into the space which gave us an opportunity to do some very interesting scribing and cut some even more interesting joinery. #
