Last weekend at @thespacebystoswaldshospice was brilliant ✨ We stayed up late for @thelateshows on Friday, enjoying our volunteer Lee spinning the decks, a hands‑on overpainting workshop, and plenty of love for our hand‑picked vintage and vinyl pop-up. Plus, the pouring rain on Saturday didn’t dampen our spirits as we teamed up with @upmarket_uk for a not‑so‑summery 'Summer Street Party'. Across the weekend we raised a whopping £3,000, helping St Oswald’s Hospice provide free hospice care for local people and their families 💙 There's lots more exciting events in the works. from vintage and vinyl to book sales, workshops and more. “I feel like I’ve got my life back.” 🥰 This #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we wanted to share Ivanna's story to highlight how the holistic care she received at St Oswald’s Hospice helped her manage her physical conditions while supporting her mental wellbeing. Before coming to St Oswald’s Hospice, Ivanna was living with undiagnosed Lipoedema, leaving her in constant pain and struggling mentally too. Ivanna said: “Before I came to St Oswald's Hospice, I could barely move. I used to spend most of my time sitting around because it was just too painful. My mental health wasn’t in a great place, either.” After receiving support from our Lymphoedema Service, things began to change. She said: “Now, I’m able to exercise, and my mental health has improved too. I feel like I’ve got my life back.” We’re so pleased Ivanna has been able to regain her confidence and start feeling more like herself again, thanks to the support, care and encouragement of our Lymphoedema Service. 💙 Read Ivanna’s full story via the link in our bio. #StOswaldsHospice | #QualityTimeForEveryone | #OpenUpHospiceCare | #MuchMoreThanYouThink | #LymphoedemaSupport | #LipoedemaSupport | #MentalHealth | #MentalHealthAwareness | @mentalhealthfoundation | @britishlymph

This International Nurses Day, we’re sharing Ires’s thoughts about being a hospice nurse. Ires has worked at St Oswald’s Hospice for the past 10 years and has been a nurse for 40. In this carousel, she reflects on what it means to care for patients and families through the night – and why just “being there” matters so much. Read the full story via the bio. 👆 💙 Today, we thank all our hospice nurses across all services, for everything they do. 👇 Comment about or tag a nurse who deserves a thank you today. #StOswaldsHospice | #QualityTimeForEveryone | #OpenUpHospiceCare | #HospiceNurses | #NursesDay | #OurNursesOurFuture | #InternationalNursesDay

This week has been all about starting conversations that many of us still find difficult 💙 At a recent Better Together Business Club talk, Davina Radford, Spiritual Care Lead at St Oswald’s Hospice, shared a powerful reminder: We’re not avoiding conversations about death because we don’t care, we’re avoiding them because we’ve never been taught how. For generations, death has moved from something shared in our homes and communities to something more hidden, medicalised, and often left unsaid. Many of us are, in Davina’s words, “newly inexperienced” at talking about it. But those conversations matter. When we talk openly about death and dying, we can: - Reduce fear and stigma - Support ourselves and the people we love - Make sure wishes are known and respected - Strengthen relationships and find opportunities for closure - Build more compassionate communities Most importantly, we give each other permission to be honest. Because the truth is, there’s no perfect way to start the conversation. But there is a simple place to begin: 👉 Let people know you’re there to listen. We don’t need to have all the answers. We just need to be willing to talk and to hear what matters most. As #DyingMattersAwarenessWeek comes to a close, let’s keep the conversation going. Check out our new 'What I Want You to Know' booklet, which will help you do just that, by clicking the link in our bio 👆 #StOswaldsHospice | #QualityTimeForEveryone | #OpenUpHospiceCare | #MuchMoreThanYouThink |#DMAW2026 | #TalkAboutDyingMatters | #BereavementSupport | @hospice_uk

We’ve been out across the region this week for #DyingMattersAwarenessWeek, helping to open conversations about death, dying and grief. 💙 This week, our teams have visited the Freeman Hospital, speaking with healthcare professionals, and RVI’s Great North Children’s Hospital, where they’ve been engaging with staff, patients and visitors to share information and encourage discussion. Meanwhile, Laura Barrett, our Community Projects Lead for Bereavement, has been working in the community, delivering training for @ntynesidevoda (Voluntary Organisations Development Agency) and taking part in a Funeral Poverty meeting in Hebburn with @southtynesidecouncil . Ahead of Dying Matters Week, Davina Radford, our Spiritual Care Lead, also hosted an interactive session for our Better Together Business Club on “Why don’t we talk about death and dying?”, which was very positively received. We’ve also launched our new “What I Want You to Know” booklet - a practical resource to help people capture their wishes and start conversations that really matter. Because it’s not about having the perfect words, it’s about starting the conversation. The booklet is available now in print, digital download, or print-at-home version.
