This lightning storm timelapse over the ocean is still, to date, the favorite that I have captured over the years. I've had a lot of requests to post the entire duration of the video, and here it is.
This storm spent almost 45 minutes back-building along an outflow boundary draped offshore the Palm Beaches many summers ago. I captured my timelapse video stills with a Canon 5D Mark II back then.
I captured over a thousand frames to piece together this lightning footage. The frames were about 4-second exposures each, allowing me to capture all the lightning bolts and vivid moonlit sky.
You could sit on a blanket on the beach, watch this storm for an hour, and never feel a drop of rain under a light, warm summer night breeze.
The summer is young, and I hope to find another night like this soon again.
When chasing a tornadic supercell storm, and the Nebraskan sand hills try to trap you. Sara and I were digging in for the stormscape. - June 2024 with @sara.gammons
Florida storms are being Florida storms this evening, with a classic draped-out thunderstorm shelf cloud—multi-cluster updrafts, popping off along boundary collisions over the eastern Shores of Lake Okeechobee.
We desperately need this rain, and it’s about time the Florida wet season starts to show itself!
A fun evening, along the boundary collision, now off to dinner!
Yesterday actually felt like the Florida wet season was attempting to kick off. Temperatures in the mid-90s, high dewpoints, and very thick, humid air gave way to sunset storms over the interior prairie lands of southern Florida.
Whether we’re targeting storms in the Great Plains or the Florida Everglades, the time to hit the road to capture the convective, stormy skies has arrived.
Sara and I just wrapped being guests on an amazing new podcast hosted by @jaycashmere and @digitalvibezinc We are very honored to be invited to share our story with the South Florida community and help contribute to an amazing group of folks doing good things!
I will definitely keep you posted on when it airs! Stay tuned!
