The construction phase is well and truly underway.
This room has been a real test—nothing is straight! The walls, floor, windows, and ceiling are all wildly uneven. Whoever built it over 100 years ago clearly wasn’t concerned with 90° angles or spirit levels. Trying to build a straight stud wall in a space like this has been a serious challenge.
We decided it was worth taking the extra time to properly insulate the room, as it’s the most exposed area in the house. In winter, it becomes incredibly cold and almost unusable.
Fitting the plasterboard has been a steep learning curve. First lesson: those sheets are very heavy. No matter how carefully I measured this room’s cursed geometry, something always seemed slightly off. Thankfully, Im a pro filling and sanding.

House update! It's well and truly December and our goal of having the living room decorated by Christmas has been delayed.
A long ignored damp problem, caused by damaged masonry outside the bay window, had rotted the floorboard supports.
Luckily, I am a woman with lots of tools, a can do attitude and very supportive parents.
Together we managed to jack up the floor, remove the rotten supports, install new treated timbers, dig out some of the dirt underfloor to improve airflow and drill out an air brick. All before dinner time!

The chilli peppers are looking plentiful and spicy 🌶️
And I've got high hopes for the aubergines, no fruit yet but plenty of flowers 🍆
