The 🚨Emergency Room🚨is a scary place to be and often is during the most vulnerable times in a person’s life. In the Emergency Department our goal is to rule-in/rule-out life or limb threatening disease. Even with our expertise, we may not be able to tell you exactly what is going, but can give reassurance that nothing life threatening is happening at the time of presentation. That makes it all the more important to ask 2 questions if you are discharged home from the emergency department: 1. What are the red flags 🚩 you should watch for? Meaning what symptoms or signs should cause you to go BACK to the emergency department. 2. WHO 🩺 should you follow up with and WHEN ⏰? Your labs and imaging may be normal and not requiring you to be hospitalized at the time. However, you may need to follow up with a specialist or your primary care doctor at a designated time to do further evaluations.

I had the opportunity to speak with a group of brilliant high school students at Fredrick Douglas High School in the Bard Early College Program. These students chose this program to engage in finding creative solutions for being involved in social justice, and y’all…they DID.NOT.DISAPPOINT! We had an in-depth discussion about the intricacies of a medical system, global health disparities, and humanitarian response systems. They were AMAZING and I learned a bit along the way too! The future is bright🔆.

Health Disparities is a social justice issue and I am glad to be able to share the message. Thank you @nolafreedomforum for inviting me to speak on racial and class health inequities. Huge thanks again to @thaferdan for connecting!

“What if you had the same relationship you had with your primary care provider as you do with your barber/hairstylist?” 🤔🧐💈 I like to play with the idea because I know they serve as an almost spiritual connection and barbershops/hairsalons are a mecca of culture. Your PCP should be your major health advocate and know you well. The level of comfort you have may not be the exact, but imagine if it was! You should be able to have an open, honest conversation with your PCP about your health and able to ask anything. If you don’t, it’s O.K. to look for someone that vibes with you better/best! 👨🏿‍⚕️ ✌🏿. Greatful for the opportunity to speak on @wbok.1230 with the famous duo @j_nicolecollins and @otforus . I cannot learn enough from the amazing @therealtoniamoore . Let’s keep doing the work 💪🏿💪🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿✨✨

Working on a project in Jamaica 🇯🇲 is near and dear to my heart. I have been traveling there since I was 2 years old to visit family and to participate in a health fair brings everything full circle! As with many Carribean countries, one of Jamaica’s largest industries is tourism. Along with that can sometimes be a galvanized view of the entire island, overlooking resource poor areas. Disparities in access to healthcare still exist on the island especially in rural communities. Education is a social determinant of health and is correlated with a better health outcomes. “Education can also lead to more accurate health beliefs and knowledge, and thus to better lifestyle choices, but also to better skills and greater self-advocacy” Events like this back-to-school fundraiser and health fair narrow gaps of inequity. Thank you @friendsofgardenhill , Gardenhill Elementary and all of the local health care providers for allowing me to participate. Next year looking to get bigger and better! Soon come my yute! One Love!

Sending you your Happy birthday text hurts today. I keep seeing you saved the voice note. I hit you to tell you I was going to be in town this summer. At least I ended the voice note with ‘I love you’ as we always did. Gav and I were talking about when we would do another block party. We didn’t get far before talking about you feeding the block for @stoop_55 . We know you’ll make sure things align next time we do it. Whichever part of existence your in now make sure you give to yourself first and send my pops and Duvan my love. Anyway, Happy birthday, I love you and we all miss you over here. 🕊️@dj_kfresh
