Statement by Pride Live in Response to the Federal Government’s Policies Affecting the Stonewall National Monument
“Pride Live is a non-profit organization founded on the principle of advancing the fight for full LGBTQ+ equality. The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center is a fully independent 501(c)(3) organization, owned and operated by Pride Live. While we work in partnership with the National Park Service to preserve the history of the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion, our facility at 51 Christopher Street remains an independent space supported 100% by private donations and community partnerships.
Through the creation of the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center, we’re unwavering in our effort to protect and preserve Stonewall’s legacy and history. Our space is inextricably linked with and honors the brave pioneers, especially transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals, who led the Stonewall Rebellion.
The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center will continue to display the Pride flag and other symbols of our community within our visitor center as a reflection of our values and our dedication to the people we serve. We remain committed to our mission to ensure that every person has access to learn about and see themselves in history.”
As Trans Awareness Week comes to a close, always remember there is no LGB without the T!
The Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center is inextricably linked with and honors the brave pioneers, especially transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals, who led the Stonewall Rebellion.
We will always welcome, celebrate, honor and fight like hell for the community.
Today, May 17, we stand in solidarity with our global family for the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).
This year’s theme, “At the Heart of Democracy,” hits home for us. True democracy is more than a ballot box; it is the fundamental promise that every person, regardless of who they love or how they identify, can walk their neighborhood streets with safety, live with dignity, and rest in justice.
When we protect the rights of the most marginalized, we strengthen the heartbeat of freedom for everyone.
As we prepared the wall for our upcoming installation, the afternoon light hit the window just right, casting a perfect reflection of the pledge—prominently displayed in our window—across the workspace. It was as if the room itself remembered what had happened long before we came into it. Stay tuned for the final reveal.

History is written by those who protect us when no one else will.
This Mother's Day, we are looking back at the Mothers of STAR. We honor the radical love of Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, who created a home and a future for New York City's LGBTQ+ youth.
Today, we honor the "mothers" who inspire movements, foster community, and ensure our safety. Their legacy serves as our guiding blueprint.
Happy Mother's Day!
Two years ago, Local Projects’ multiyear partnership with Pride Live bore fruit: the doors opened at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center.
The Center was premised on a simple but radical dream: to ensure that LGBTQ+ history had a home that could never be erased. Now, that dream received a beautiful nod from the American Alliance of Museums.
We are deeply honored to announce that we’ve been awarded the 2026 Museum of Impact Award.
This isn’t just a trophy on a shelf; it’s a testament to every person who has walked through the center’s doors. In just 24 months, 112,000 people have experienced the SNMVC, including visitors from all 50 states (including DC and Puerto Rico) and 93 countries. Pride knows no borders.
Thank you @aamersofficial for recognizing the growing need for a place like the SNMVC – a home for the past, present, and future of the LGBTQ+ movement.
We're beyond thrilled to share that the @stonewallvisctr has received the 2026 Museum Impact Award from the American Alliance of Museums!
When we opened two years ago, we dreamed of making sure LGBTQ+ history could never be erased. This award belongs to all of you who have made that a reality.
What's our impact?
✨ 112,000+ visitors who have walked through our doors.
✨ All 50 states (including DC and Puerto Rico) and 93 countries represented, pride really has no borders.
✨ 15,000+ personal stories archived forever.
Huge thanks to @local_projects for the nomination and to @aamersofficial for the honor. But mostly, thank YOU for proving our history matters. We're celebrating this one with our entire community. 🏳️🌈 🌎

Deeply grateful to the brilliant Parsons students who curated "Setting the Table," which was on display at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center this past year. Your creativity, care, and thoughtful engagement have made a lasting impact on all who visited.
We will forever be grateful to the main student designers, Gummy Nicols, Nate Rodriguez, and Kevin She, along with Parsons faculty leaders Alfred Zollinger and Cotter Christian, for your partnership and passion to advance the mission of @stonewallvisctr .
Thank you for helping us honor our history, uplift our community, and imagine a more inclusive future for all. 🌈
Special thanks to @people_i_love__
for capturing these moments at the closing reception.
Today, May 3rd, we celebrate Family Equality Day. We are reminded that every LGBTQ+ family is a living testament to the courage of those who stood their ground in 1969. The uprising didn’t just win us the right to gather; it paved the way for the right to build homes, raise children, and define family on our own terms.
From the birthplace of the modern Pride movement, we wish you a joyful Family Equality Day. To the parents, the children, the chosen families, and the allies: Your love is a revolution.
FREE WORKSHOPS! Join us at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center for free workshops throughout the year. As part of my artist residency, I’m offering four drop-in experiences exploring different mediums and themes. Our first workshop is May 30th from 1-4PM in celebration of Family Equality Day. Experience the Visitor Center’s incredible exhibits then stop by the theater to create a collage.
Registration is not required, but encouraged so we can anticipate attendance. Link in bio for more details. See you there!
This issue is all about showing up for each other, as we celebrate the return of our flags over the Stonewall National Monument, heartfelt engagements on Christopher Street, and new voices shaping queer storytelling.
