I really just wanted to make this video so you can see how handsome my good boy looks in his pup float from @stohlquistwaterware 💛🐶
If your dog is like Marley, and loves the river too, here’s a few reasons why I highly recommend this pup float:
•Adjustable straps for the most comfortable & secure fit
•Handle to grab them quickly out of water (iykyk)
•Bright yellow color for easy visibility
•Leash attachment
•Reflective stripes
•Ideal amount of floatation

Every river guide runs whitewater differently, and I really believe that one of the most important parts of boating is figuring out what works best for you and your boat.
I’ve gotten a lot of questions recently about how I approach the right-to-left move at Horn Creek, so I edited this video to try to show my angle and timing as clearly as possible. As of 2026, Horn is my new favorite rapid in the Grand Canyon, and the right-to-left move is the line I personally feel most comfortable with in an 18’ raft when I don’t want to split the horns.
In the clip, you can see where I like to enter, how many solid pulls I try to get in before crossing the first lateral coming off the right horn, and where I aim to spin behind the right horn. I’m also keeping a close eye on my upstream oar during the entry move so I don’t lose my angle when I hit the slack water behind the right horn. If that happens, some boats can end up getting sent immediately into what we call the “Train Wreck” on river right.
And if you watch closely, you’ll notice the wind started gusting HARD right as I dropped in… which honestly felt like the Colorado River channeling Coyote the trickster just to keep things interesting.
For folks nervous about the right-to-left move at low water: hopefully this helps visualize one way to do it. Splitting the horns is absolutely also an option. Scout if you’re uncomfortable, figure out what works for you, and don’t be afraid to choose the line that matches your skill set and your crew.
Also: put a few practice pulls in before attempting any rapid that requires a downstream ferry angle. Feeling how loaded your boat is that day, how quickly it accelerates, and how it glides in current makes a huge difference. At the end of the day, this is a classic downstream ferry move in the Grand Canyon.

The Trekker and Cruiser are built with cross-chest chin harness for 0 ride-up, and a low-profile fit so they move with your stroke. Comfortable enough to forget you’re wearing one. Important enough to never leave the dock without it.

After a decade of loving the river & white water rafting, here are my 5 non-negotiable river items for floating with my family 👧🏼🐶
1. The Edge: this pfd is my first selection for myself when floating the river with my family. It’s simple, minimal and low profile. I wear a small/ medium 💜
2. The Descent: this pfd is what I’m wearing when I’m boating without my toddler and dog. This pfd is built for technical and big white water. I feel very safe and prepared for swift water rescues when I wear this pfd!
3. Infant pfd (not in video): If you want to take your infant down the river, they have to wear a river appropriate pfd. My daughter wore hers during her first float at 1 years old! This one is bright for easy visibility and has the head flap, which are two nonnegotiables for infant safety.
4. Pup float: ^^^ If you want to take your pup down the river, it’s your responsibility to also provide them adequate floatation. This pup float is bright yellow (a great color for the river), has a handle for grabbing your dog out of the water (iykyk) and reflective stripes for enhanced visibility!
5. Tideline boots: your feet will be very warm and happy in these 5mm river booties. Built for durability and stability, these are the best boots on the market! I wear these when river surfing and rafting 🏄🏼♀️

He asked me if I’m one of those high maintenance city girls who gets their hair and nails done and I said absolutely not…
He didn’t ask me how high maintenance I am for outdoor recreational activities though 🤪
