Today is the one year anniversary of the tornado. We’ve gone back and forth about noting the date publically, but in the end we wanted to connect one more time with those of you that carried us through such a difficult year.
We are still deeply sad about what we lost on May 16, 2025. We loved the space we dreamed up and built on Delmar. A community space that also shared handmade local work felt like a natural extension of Union Studio. It was really beautiful and we will always miss what we could have grown there.
The past year has been difficult. After the tornado, our financial situation was dire and we made the terribly sad decision to not reopen The Lobby to give us a shot at trying to stay in business. We let go our beloved manager because we could no longer afford her salary. We spent countless hours trying to work with our insurance company to reach a fair and quick resolution of our claim. Our claim is still pending. All of this was grueling, and yet, when you look at the state of the neighborhoods and families that were most affected, we are undoubtedly the lucky ones. It’s a strange line to walk.
To those that supported us, we want to thank you again for your kindness and generosity. We are forever grateful and still in business because of you. If you are in a position to help those still suffering and recovering from the tornado, we encourage you to donate to / or /tornado-relief/.
Thank you all again.
With love,
Mary Beth and Sarah
