Celebrating 15 years of St. Jude Corvette Drive, where drivers from across the country travel to Memphis in support of the St. Jude mission.
For many teenagers, a formal dance is a milestone that marks a season of growing up. For teen patients at St. Jude, it can also be a chance to step outside the routines of treatment and experience an evening that feels familiar, social, and entirely their own.
Last week, St. Jude hosted Teen Formal, a prom-style event for patients ages 16–19 who are in active treatment or who have recently completed treatment. Each patient could bring a guest, creating space for connection, celebration and a sense of normalcy during an intensive period of life.
This year’s theme, “On Cloud 9,” shaped the atmosphere from start to finish. The day included opportunities for teens to get ready together, enjoy complimentary salon services and spend time with peers before the evening began.
As part of the experience, patients rode in a limousine around downtown Memphis and arrived at the Domino’s Event Center for a red-carpet entrance, with employees and caregivers cheering as they stepped into the event space. The evening continued with dinner, dancing and entertainment designed to help teens focus on what most teenagers look forward to: time with friends, music and shared memories.
Teen Formal is one way St. Jude supports the whole patient experience, recognizing that adolescence does not pause for illness. Moments of celebration and community matter, and they belong in the story of care.
