St. Francis Junior Members took to the bay on Saturday to compete for a berth in the 2026 US Sailing Sears Cup Finals. Emi Puertas helmed an all female team and Nolan Balocki was a trimmer aboard the 3rd place team. Moving on to represent Area G in Noroton, CT in August are 2 teams with St. Francis Juniors including Ava Adamson, James Franzone, and Lucia Franzone. The Baruna Trophy honours more than speed alone; it celebrates the enduring legacy of classic seamanship in one of ocean racingโs most iconic passages. From Newportโs historic start line to Bermudaโs blue horizon, this is where legends are measured not just by victory - but by character under sail.
The trophy now resides at the St Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco - seen here with Bob Hanelt a previous owner of Skylark 1937.
