🎨 Art as a bridge of Resistance 🇮🇹🤝🇹🇳
Representing our Murgia roots with the new-born Collettivo Avrusc, we wanted to create a bridge between our Italian rocks and the stunning Semmama mountains, in Tunisia, for an incredible exchange of life and knowledge.
So my lovely comrades
@masseria_scalera @anna_maria_canc @angela_the_red_panda @casalina.bsr and
@floriogram shared their magic through workshops on pasta & panzerotti making, dairy products and natural cosmetics, swapping secrets about local flours, milk and plants with the local community.
@micvicenti and
@stezzofilms screened the documentary "Rogo" to talk about wildfire issues and ran a workshop building DIY fire extinguishers from recycled materials, while
@claudiofocarazzo of
@materanoways mapped the poetry of the land with his camera and some trail ideas to develop in the future, even in a complex area under military garrison like the one where we were hosted.
Embracing the "Inshallah" philosophy, we worked with what we had and it was amazing.
In my case, on the mural I painted portraying Khalti Mbarka - a legendary shepherdess and "guardian" of this land - I re-styled a hole in the wall into a Murgia stone and re-used local lamb’s wool to create clouds in the Bendir’s sky.
I decided to paint a symbol of the old shepherd generation in this dream-like version while dancing, playing and singing, 'cause her joy, voice and energy have been (and still are) a political act of resistance in this beautiful, complex region named Kasserine.
The graffiti written by local children closed the circle revealing their dreams of freedom, truth, and resistance, making the message of this wall come alive: may the voices of the local shepherds never stop singing.
Special thanks to
@mariantonietta_scalera for weaving these pieces together, to the
@shepherds.festival.of.semmama who invited us, to every beautiful soul we met on this journey, and especially to the ones who keep this place and the dreams of children alive.
This was our first time in Tunisia, we were astonished by her beauty and we are sure we'll be back soon. The seeds are planted.
