Derby weekend was one for the books! Hosting Neil, David, and Helen at Woodland Farm made it unforgettable. From farm mornings to the track, every moment was pure magic. I wish we could rewind and do it all over again. Until next year, Derby—I’ll be counting down!
We’ve carefully de-installed Anne Peabody’s “Wheel of Fortune” at @21clouisville — what began as a small sculpture in Anne’s apartment became an icon of 21c for almost 15 years. We will preserve it, and who knows where it will emerge next? I’m grateful we brought it full-scale, and although we are making room for new art, this pieces journey is far from over.
Derby Eve at 21C was one for the books! Big shout-out to my special guests this weekend, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka. Thanks for letting me run you ragged! Already looking forward to your next visit to the bluegrass state. As always, nothing compares to Derby season in Louisville. The city, the horses, the traditions—Kentucky is in my blood, and I’m always proud to celebrate it with you all. It may be the fastest two minutes in sports, but each one is a lifetime of memories.
TICKET GIVEAWAY! Tomorrow night is my Derby Eve party at 21C, and it’s going to be one of the most unforgettable parties around! Talent is flying in from New York and Miami. It’s exclusive—no phones, because what happens there stays there. And let’s not forget, Derby weekend in Louisville is pure magic! To win tickets, comment on my reel and tag who you want as your plus-one. Let’s make it a night to remember!
Hi friends! Laura Lee and I always believed art is meant to be shared—and that’s how this all started. I’ve been “just crazy enough” to move my giant, pink sculptural snails from Woodland Farm all the way to downtown Louisville—just in time for our Derby Eve party. It’s a celebration of community art, but also a fundraiser for Norton Cancer Institute’s Healthy Breast Program. So yeah, art for everyone—and doing some good, too!
🐌💕 @nortonhealth
Slow and steady wins the race to end breast cancer!
Giant pink snails have taken over downtown Louisville for Derby Week! 😮
Slowly making their way from Woodland Farm in Goshen, KY, to the @21clouisville , this art installation has stopped at several local businesses along the way and are raising funds for the battle against breast cancer.
The snails will be in the downtown area until 4/30 before heading to @21clouisville for Steve’s Derby Eve Bash.
Grab your pic with the snails soon before they’re gone forever!
Find all the snail locations and learn more at @pinksnailmigration 🐌💖
If you know, you know—Derby week isn’t complete without my Derby Eve bash. I’m flying in my favorite performance artists to shake things up, and trust me, it’s always a night people talk about. If you’re in on it, head to StevesDerbyEve.com—it’s going to be one for the books!
Before stepping into Austin Young’s studio, I passed through his garden—alive with color and texture, each plant offering a glimpse of his inspiration. That sensory experience set the stage for his solo work—where beauty, queerness, and community all intertwine. I was there to immerse myself in these newest pieces, and I can’t wait to see his upcoming site-specific work in Italy.
In the past, Austin and I collaborated through Fallen Fruit—his duo with David Allen Burns. We’ve worked on several commissions together, blending art, community engagement, and a shared exploration of the spaces we inhabit. Each project, past and present, reveals the beauty that surrounds every facet of his life and work. Proud to see what he’s creating now!
Brace yourselves—Derby Eve is about to get wilder! On May 1st at 21c, my annual party returns with unexpected twists—and yes, the pink snails from Cracking Art are migrating from Woodland Farm to downtown Louisville! Sponsors are hosting them along the way, but they’ll all gather at the party. Trust me—this year, it’s going to surprise us all. See you there! 🐌💕
I went to visit my dear friend Elena Dorfman—we’ve known each other for over 20 years, and her work still stops me in my tracks. One series that always stands out is “Still Lovers,” where she photographed people in the Midwest with their life-size intimacy dolls. It’s not about shock; it’s about revealing those nuanced, intimate worlds between people and their surrogates. The work feel more relevant than ever.
Still buzzing from last weekend’s @kmaccouture ! It’s always a highlight of the year—the creativity from Louisville’s designers was off the charts. I had a blast dressing up, but the real stars were those incredible, artful looks strutting the runway. Already counting down to the next one!
At the @thebrick_la in LA, I stood before Kara Walker’s reimagining of the Stonewall Jackson statue from Charlottesville. As a collector of her work, it’s inspiring to see how she transforms material and form. She deconstructed and reshaped history—challenging memory, power, and transformation. It was a privilege to witness her vision up close—history redefined.
