Our mum. And glimpses of Robin- clear as day. Apple. Tree. It’s Brenda Antin’s birthday today. My mom. Robin’s mom. Neil and Jonathan’s mom. Jocie and Asher’s nanna. Mike’s wife since 1956.
(They survived a divorce in the late ’60s — four kids deep — married other people, then found their way back to each other years later.)
Our lives felt like a movie. A lot of it was poolside. Parties. Family. Drama. Summers in Malibu. Movies. Rock ’n’ roll. Sometimes glamorous. Sometimes gritty.
Dad is a talented artist. Mom turned her love of the finer things into a successful career — a designer with incomparable style and taste. She was wickedly funny. Incredibly well read. Always ahead of the zeitgeist — if it was good, cool, or stylish, she already knew.
She didn’t suffer fools. She held her friends — and us — to a high standard. She pushed her kids to be better. And better.
She was tough. She would not accept mediocrity. For that, I’m grateful.
She was a force. She still is. Happy birthday mum. We miss you. ❤️
