Surprise, and Happy Holidays, I am releasing a song on New Years Day! Last November I was fortunate enough to join @musicbycamilo , @stevemurillo_ , @liamwallacemusic and a few others in Idyllwild for a weekend of recording and jam sessions at a cabin/studio. In between sessions Steve and I jammed to a piece of mine and he insisted we develop it. Liam joined us eager to keep the creative flow going and thus Antigua was born. Originally a bass solo piece I’d play during my mornings to welcome the day and reflect on my roots, Antigua eventually became a way to think of my ancestors and loved ones past. Steve really captured the wonder of a forest sunrise in his piano and flute performances, while Liam’s drums and percussion lingered like fog and dew, felt all around. Really enveloped the looping tension and melody of the bass piece I wrote. Camilo tied everything together nicely with his ever-curious engineering mindset. He mixed and mastered the project. Honorable mention to @sosa_recording for all the help in studio. Really came together in such a serendipitous moment, huge thanks to the guys for pushing me and for being so invested in something so vulnerable for me. The song has been ready for some time, I was lacking courage, so a huge thanks for everyone who supports me in any capacity, even in my periods of reclusion, I hope this gift expresses my gratitude. When we recorded saxophone for CAMCED the first time, Steve said to use him as a vessel; I said a few words about the emotional context of the music, showed him the songs, many for the first time, and he proceeded to create parts with just the right amount of a artistry and complexity, like mostly everything on this record, totally improvised, and usually on the first or second takes.
