ABOAKYERE a traditional deer-hunting festival celebrated by the people of the Efutu and Simpa tribes in Winneba, Ghana. During the festival, participants engage in a symbolic deer hunt, representing the mythical origins of their settlement. It's a colorful celebration filled with traditional music, dance, and rituals, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Another interesting fact is that Winneba is traditionally called Simpa. The name Winneba actually originated from sailors who plied along the Atlantic Coast and who were often aided along the bay by a favorable wind. From their constant use of the words “windy bay” the name Winneba was coined.
I had to go to my mother's hometown this year to embrace the rich tradition and culture at the Aboakyere festival and I had @kobby_oddox with me too so you bet it was fun.
