A little over 20 years ago, in the fall of 2005, we packed up and headed to Long View Farm Studios in North Brookfield, Massachusetts, to begin tracking our second full-length album, VOICES. With John Goodmanson at the helm, we recorded songs that came to us during soundchecks, long drives, and in practice spaces on both coasts. We knew it would be different. We didn’t know where it would lead, but after years of touring, these songs were all we had, and we knew we had to let go and move forward.
We spent a month living and recording in that barn, surrounded by woods and ghosts. Track by track, the album took shape. For the first time, we sat together and listened as scattered ideas became something whole. Before that, it felt like having something to say without knowing how to say it.
We remember leaving the studio, listening to the mixes on the drive back to New York. We were proud, but felt like something was missing.
The years that followed brought both success and setbacks. Touring and stress strained our friendships and drove us apart. Every few years we’d find our way back together, revisit the memories, and reach the same conclusion. Something was missing.
As the 20th anniversary of VOICES approached, we wanted to honor the album while also sharing something new. There were two songs we began recording during those Long View Farm sessions, but they were never finished. Nearly two decades later, in the summer of 2025, we completed those two tracks alongside John Goodmanson at Robert Lang studios in Seattle, WA.
Today, we’re releasing the first of those two songs. “Something Worse Than the Night” is out everywhere now! VOICES | VISIONS is out 2/13 and includes another new song coming your way. Thank you for singing along, for keeping the music alive, and for celebrating VOICES with us… 20 years later.
