Earlier this month, I embarked on one of my most memorable journeys: traveling to Delhi, India, for the One Up x Kokila Author Festival. During my time there, I visited nine schools and conducted a drawing workshop where we discussed how I illustrated my hometown, the Bronx, in my graphic novel, Doodles from the Boogie Down. The students then had the opportunity to draw themselves and their communities. I never imagined that my graphic novel would reach an audience across the globe in this way. I realized that the message of Doodles—striving for your dreams, even when they seem impossible, and being proud of your roots resonates worldwide. I received an overwhelming amount of love during this trip and made new friends. It was truly incredible! 🤩 @oneuplibrary @kokilabooks @penguinclassroom šŸ“· @bookishruti #author #authorsofinstagram #doodlesfromtheboogiedown #graphicnovel middlegradebooks

Just got back from Pittsburgh for the closing event of the Fred Rogers Writers’ Neighborhood Fellowship šŸ’– Since September, my cohort and I have been refining our preschool scripts and learning how to present ourselves as professionals. We’ve worked on updating our resumes and bios, as well as building our online presence. Each week, we’ve had the incredible opportunity to learn directly from talented TV writers in children’s media. As a shy kid who struggled in school and found comfort and lessons in children’s media, this experience meant the world to me. I’m so grateful to the FRP team for creating such a thoughtful and inspiring space for us. Excited to start my mentorship next! ✨ #fredrogersproductions #childrensmedia #writersfellowship #screenwriters #tvwriting

Stephanie Rodriguez shares growing up between the Bronx and Tampa, hustling her way into art school, creating her graphic novel Doodles from the Boogie Down, transitioning from comics to screenwriting, moving to LA with a New York hustle, and breaking into children’s media through the Fred Rogers Writers’ Neighborhood Fellowship! @stephguez šŸ‡©šŸ‡“

What a magical kick-off for the @fredrogersproductions Writers’ Neighborhood Fellowship! I am incredibly grateful for my cohort and all the wonderful children’s media writers we met. We learned so much, from how to brand ourselves to receiving feedback on our scripts. We even participated in a fun improv session to help us loosen up. It was an invaluable two days in Pittsburgh! šŸ’–

I’m excited to share that I have been selected as one of the eight 2025 fellows for the Fred Rogers Writers’ Neighborhood! Mr. Rogers was a significant influence on my education outside of school, and as a child, I envied his collection of cardigan sweaters. I am truly honored to be part of a program that helps writers build and sustain careers in children’s media. I want to give a special shoutout to the amazing women who supported me along this journey. Thank you to @amandita_naranjita for encouraging me to apply to the Fred Rogers Program, and to my mentor @x_jesenia_x for guiding me in writing my first preschool script.

I broke my toe, which forced me to slow down during my trip to NYC. ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹šŸ¦¶šŸ½šŸ„¹ Despite hobbling around, I managed to see two Broadway musicals, enjoy crab legs in City Island (if you know, you know!), go thrift shopping, and spend quality time with family and friends. šŸ’–
